RADIATION THERAPIST (Imaging Specialist IV)
East Hawaii Health Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology | Hilo, Hawaii | 100% Full Time with Benefits (Relocation Assistance is Available)

ANNUAL SALARY:

  • Level IV: $93, 468 per year or $7,789 per month (includes a shortage differential) BU:13, SR-22
Employees in certain Imaging Specialist positions shall earn incentives based on the successful completion of the following years of service:
  • 1 year of satisfactory service: $2,000 bonus
  • 2 years of satisfactory service: $3,000 bonus
  • ($5,000 is the maximum bonus that any employee may receive over the life of this agreement)

East Hawaii Health Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a Radiation Therapist to work in our Radiation Oncology (Oncology Acute) department.

East Hawaii Health Cancer Center is a division of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation\xe2\x80\x99s East Hawaii Region, which includes Hilo Medical Center, Ka\xe2\x80\x99u Hospital and Hale Ho\xe2\x80\x99ola Hamakua. POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Radiation Therapist (Imaging Specialist) is responsible for independently performing a variety of radiation therapy treatments, simulations, treatment planning and fabrication of specialized treatment aide in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the physician. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient\xe2\x80\x99s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient\xe2\x80\x99s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed by patients of all ages.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Reviews treatment prescription and set up instructions; implements daily treatments in an accurate and reproducible fashion.
  • Accurately records treatment in patients\xe2\x80\x99 charts and maintain daily statistics of treatment and films.
  • Maintains knowledge of each patient and their organ tolerance, and communicates instructions and side effects involved in the care of the patients to physician and all medical personnel involved; instructs patient and families regarding treatment procedures and expected side effects.
  • Assists the physician with treatments and procedures as assigned.
  • Assists physicians, nurses, clerical personnel and other staff as necessary to ensure prompt patient flow and to maximize the efficiency of the therapy rooms.
  • Participates in the maintenance of department quality assurance program; recommends changes on policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Observes safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the department and hospital.
  • Documents diagnostic, treatment and patient data in the appropriate record. Documentation must be timely, accurate, concise and complete.
  • Performs duties in compliance with organizational policy and procedures and JCAHO requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree from an approved program recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Experience: Progressively responsible imaging technologist/specialist experience within the ranges stated below. Experience may be demonstrated a thorough knowledge of imaging procedures and/or techniques such as myelograms, discograms, arthrograms, etc. including the x-raying of such areas of the human anatomy as the chest, skull, gastro-intestinal tract, urinary tract, and vascular system.
  • Level IV: One and one half (1 1/2) year
Specialized Experience: Radiation oncology experience within the ranges stated below. Experience must demonstrate the ability to perform clinical radiation oncology procedures utilizing standard or modified radiation oncology techniques in accordance with physician\xe2\x80\x99s ordered procedures, protocols and quality standards in the treatment of oncology patients.
  • Level IV: One (1) year
Certification: A current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy (T). BLS is required within six months of employment.

Licensure: A current State of Hawaii Radiologic Technologist license as a Radiation Therapist.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
