PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and management of all imaging modalities, including MRI, CT, X-ray, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Mammography, Cardiovascular Services, and Bone Density. This position ensures delivery of high-quality, cost-effective diagnostic and screening imaging services while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.
Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and leadership to advance service delivery, optimize workflows, enhance patient satisfaction, and support hospital wide goals for quality, safety, efficiency, and financial targets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide operational leadership, strategic leadership, and staffing support for all imaging modalities.
2. Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with achievement of departmental goals.
3. Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures in alignment with hospital mission, objectives, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
4. Oversee daily operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality imaging services in alignment with hospital mission, objectives, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
5. Monitor productivity, equipment utilization, and performance metrics across all imaging modalities.
6. Lead initiatives to improve patient throughput, scheduling efficiency, and staff productivity.
7. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, billing, and compliance standards.
8. Oversee quality assurance and quality control programs for all imaging modalities.
9. Implement evidence-based best practices to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
10. Collaborate with the medical director(s) and radiologists to ensure consistent, high-quality imaging and reporting standards.
11. Support compliance with all radiation safety and infection control initiatives and standards.
12. Evaluate capital equipment needs and develop business cases for new technology and service expansion.
13. Works in collaboration with Materials Management and Administration to oversee vendor relationships, service contracts, and purchasing for imaging equipment and supplies.
14. Recruit, train, evaluate, and retain qualified staff across all imaging modalities.
15. Fosters a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
16. Ensure ongoing professional development and certification compliance for all imaging personnel.
17. Collaborate with providers and administration to identify and develop new imaging services and programs.
18. Lead technology assessments, replacement planning, and imaging equipment upgrades.
19. Work closely with internal and external clinical departments, providers, and clinics to ensure coordinated imaging care.
20. Collaborates with Information Technology (IT) to ensure imaging systems integration (ie PACS, EMR) and data security compliance.
21. Participates in community outreach, marketing, and provider engagement efforts to promote imaging services.
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cost Awareness: Develops, understands, and manages departmental budget. Ensures that budgetary concerns are communicated to COSO. Reviews and provides monthly variance reports for revenue and expenses. Rationale for variance is to be very specific as to causes and follow-up action.
2. Employee Performance: Identifies performance expectations and ensures that employees understand those expectations and are held accountable in meeting the expectations. Assesses employee performance in an accurate and timely manner and works with employees to resolve performance issues. Takes timely and appropriate disciplinary actions. Acknowledges employee accomplishments.
3. Organizational Policies: Communicates and enforces Waverly Health Center policies. Develops policies and procedures essential to the operation of the department in compliance with regulatory requirements.
4. Staffing: Creates and maintains departmental job descriptions. Builds a team with diverse skills and strengths by selecting the best candidate for each position. Develops effective staffing patterns to meet departmental needs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience, and Training
a. Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field required.
b. Master's degree in Healthcare Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), or related field preferred.
c. Must have successfully completed formal Radiologic Technology training in an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) approved program and be registered (or eligible for registry) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology.
d. Must possess valid State of Iowa credential (i.e. Iowa Permit to Practice)
e. Must possess one of the following certifications, based on skill set:
Radiologic Technologist- must be registered through ARRT in General Radiology and possess valid permit to practice from the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Radiologic Technologist: Mammography- Mammography technologist must possess or obtain certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated.
Radiologic Technologist: MRI- MRI technologist must possess or obtain MRI certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated. MRI Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire.
Radiologic Technologist: CT technologist must possess or obtain CT certification. Technologists hired to train on job with no experience must obtain certification within 24 months after appropriate training is complete and application process is initiated. CT Technologist with 2 plus years of experience but not yet certified must possess certification 18 months after hire. As of 3/1/2022; current staff working towards advanced certification must possess certification within 24 months. This process will be monitored by Radiology Department Manager.
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI to perform echocardiograms and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) for vascular studies or eligible for registry
f. Prior imaging services leadership and work experience is preferred.
g. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
h. Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required.
i. Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.
Physical Requirements
Sitting - Approximately 25% of shift.
Standing- Approximately 50% of shift.
Walking - Approximately 50% of shift.
Lifting - Approximately 35 pounds. Must use, and require staff to use, when in hospital and/or pre-hospital settings, proper body mechanics and ergonomics and, as applicable, lifting/moving devices.
Twisting - Infrequent.
Bending - Moderate.
Squat/Kneel - Approximately 25% of shift.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. May come in contact with hazardous chemicals or treatment modalities.
2. The possibility exists of exposure to communicable disease due to working in a healthcare environment.
3. Involvement in patient care may result in unavoidable work-related illnesses.
