SUMMARY



The Human Service Specialist/Mentor plays a critical role in supporting the ODEP Employment Transition Model (ETM) Program by working directly with participants and employers to ensure successful program engagement and transition to employment. This position acts as a mentor, advocate, and service guide, assisting participants in overcoming barriers to program completion and employment.



The Human Service Specialist/Mentor will provide hands-on support by gathering required documentation, coordinating participant enrollment, delivering structured interventions, and ensuring that participants have access to resources, training, and supportive services. This individual will also serve as a key liaison between participants, employers, and the program manager, contributing to strategic planning and overall program success.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Includes the following:


Participant Engagement and Support


Build trusting relationships with participants and their families, serving as a consistent point of support throughout the program. Assist participants in gathering required documents for program enrollment and ongoing compliance. Conduct initial intake sessions and create individualized plans to address barriers to employment and program completion. Provide mentoring and structured guidance to participants through one-on-one sessions, group activities, and outreach efforts. Support participants in identifying career pathways and connecting with training, internships, and employment opportunities.
Program Coordination and Case Management


Maintain up-to-date participant files and ensure all required documentation is accurately completed and submitted. Collaborate with the program manager to track participant progress and identify areas requiring additional intervention. Assist in planning and facilitating workshops, orientation sessions, and program events to foster skill development and community engagement. Participate in retention efforts by conducting follow-ups and progress checks with participants and employers. Support WIOA co-enrollment processes and ensure participants are connected to CareerHub services.
Employer Engagement and Workforce Connection


Work with local employers to understand workforce needs and align participant skills and goals with available opportunities. Assist participants in preparing for interviews, onboarding, and adapting to workplace culture. Serve as a liaison between employers and participants to ensure a smooth transition into internships or employment.
Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities


Accurately record and track participant interactions, services provided, and outcomes achieved using program databases and reporting tools. Prepare regular reports for the program manager regarding participant engagement and program milestones. Uphold confidentiality and follow all organizational and grant-related compliance guidelines. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS



Background or strong interest in the human services career path with experience working with youth, individuals with disabilities, or disadvantaged populations.


Knowledge of workforce development programs and supportive services.


Strong interpersonal, mentoring, and advocacy skills.


Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building rapport with participants.


Excellent communication and organizational skills.


Experience with case management or structured interventions is preferred.


Reliable and empathetic, with a commitment to helping participants overcome barriers to success.




EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in human services, workforce programs, or related fields preferred.




COMPUTER SKILLS



Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Comfortable using online forms, email, databases, and virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom.
