2nd Shift - Full Time
PRIMARY FUNCTION :
  • Set up and operate horizontal boring bar performing all operations.
  • Horizontal boring bar and attachments, jib and overhead crane, jigs, fixtures, arbors, bars, cutters, steady rests, blocks, parallels, shims, wedges, jacks, clamps, precision measuring devices, machinist hand tools, drawings, etc.
  • Steel, iron, brass and other metallic and non-metallic materials, lubricants, coolants, etc..
Description:
  • Secure job assignment and minimal instruction for complex work, facilities and materials.
  • Plan sequence of operations, type of set up and machining specifications such as required dimensions, tolerances, finishes, speeds, feeds, etc.
  • Identify work piece and position manually or with jib or overhead crane.
  • Set up and align using blocks, shims, parallels, wedges, clamps, etc.
  • Select and position proper stub or pilot bars, milling or cutting tools, arbors, etc.
  • Select feeds and speeds, locate centers and surfaces and index as required.
  • Set stops and operate machine by manipulating levers, hand wheels, selector buttons, etc.
  • Adjust flow of coolants and observe operation closely checking dimensions and adjusting as necessary.
  • Perform very close machining operations requiring considerable alignment such as boring to maintain center to center bore alignment, milling, counter boring, turning, facing, chamfering, cutting radii, etc. on parts, pieces and sub assemblies such as saddle blocks, gear cases, frames, bases, revolving frames, booms, pinions, sleeves, weldments, castings, etc. and coolants, etc.
  • Remove processed piece and set aside as required.
  • Return tools and drawings.
  • Keep facilities material and work area clean and orderly , exercising care in their use and assisting in their maintenance as required.
  • Conform to safety and inspection requirements and perform all the above operations in a safe and efficient manner.
Qualifications:
  • One to three years of actual, hands on machining experience; demonstrate good skill and ability on the machines operated.
  • Read and interpret blue prints.
  • Know the skills of gaging, indicating, and measuring techniques, including verniers and micrometers.
  • Know basic machine shop math, including high school trigonometry.
  • Know basic machine shop practices.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of machining terminology and procedures.
  • Boring Bar experience preferred, but not necessary.
  • Demonstrate safe work history
Additional Information:
  • This position is located at the Caterpillar manufacturing facility located in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • 2nd Shift - Full Time
  • Pay: Step 1 - $27.73 hr, Step 2 - $28.88 hr, Step 3 - $30.03 hr plus an additional $0.70 for shift premium
  • No relocation assistance is available.
