Job Description


General Job Brief The Hispanic Student Coordinator plays a key role in the recruitment and retention of Hispanic and first-generation college students. The Coordinator serves as a liaison to prospective students, families, secondary schools, churches, and other community partners. The Coordinator will collaborate with various ACU departments, including admissions, student life, and academic success to recruit students to the university and help them to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually upon arrival. This role will be responsible for regular communication with Spanish-speaking families to encourage their participation at orientation and other university events. The Hispanic Student Coordinator must display a commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth through person-to-person mentorship and discipleship. This is a five-year, Department of Education grant-funded position. Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree
  • Minimum of (2) years of job-experience
  • Ability to speak and write in Spanish required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree
  • (2) years of job-experience in academic advising, counseling, or other student support services
  • Familiarity with Hispanic community organizations as a student, staff member, or volunteer
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of higher education recruitment best practices
  • Knowledge of university admission processes, degree options, and housing procedures
  • Knowledge of university programs and services
  • Knowledge of marketing and internal and external organizational communication
  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position
Skills:
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be fluent in conversational and written Spanish
Abilities:
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and effectively organize and manage time and tasks
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse university community

  • Recruit students through oral presentations, college and career fairs, written and electronic communication, and individual contacts
  • Plan, organize, and supervise recruitment events, with a special focus on Hispanic and low-income communities
  • Identify new regions, institutions, and partnerships to foster student enrollment
  • Maintain relationships with prospective students, families, high school counselors, and transfer partners
  • Provide guidance to Hispanic and low-income students through the recruitment and enrollment process
  • Develop campus-wide partnerships to support retention efforts for Hispanic and low-income student populations
  • Represents the university in a positive and professional manner
  • Serve as a liaison to the parents of Hispanic and first-generation students after matriculation
  • Create written, video, and oral content for marketing, orientation, and retention initiatives
  • Represent the University as a member of the Title V project and perform other duties appropriate to the position
Working Conditions:
  • Requires the ability to read, write, see, hear, and speak clearly
  • Requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach or sit for long periods of time
  • Requires working on a computer, PC or laptop; ability to work these and office related equipment
  • May be required to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Must be willing to travel

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Commitment to ACU\'s faith statement, mission, and purposes and an active Christian faith
  • Comfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staff
  • The ability to meaningfully support and encourage students and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings
