Job Responsibilities

Operates backhoe in a safe and efficient manner. Ensures proper preventative maintenance is done in accordance with SCDOT Fleet Safety and Manufacturer\'s operation manual. Assists with the installation of driveways with and without pipe maintaining proper grade. Levels bed of ditch to lay pipe using a shovel. Ensures all joints of pipe are tight, level and to specifications. Patches pot holes by cutting out area, adding tac and asphalt, then tamping for a good seal. Operates 5 yard, 8 yard, and tandem truck to haul rock, dirt, asphalt, and other materials from vendor to job site or stock pile at shop. Ensures tarp is in place and all loose material is removed from sides and tail gate of truck before operation begins. Performs preventative maintenance on truck and keep record of same. Cuts site areas by hand using chain saw, sling blade and axe and remove dead trees from right-of-way. Flags traffic in low and high volume areas to protect motorist and crew members. Assists in the placing of traffic control devices in work zones according to the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Operates motor grader in pulling shoulders. Operates heavy equipment during emergencies and hazardous weather operations.

This Position is located at District One: Lexington Maintenance

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator\'s license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver\'s License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
