Purpose of Position

Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to provide independent recommended decisions that include findings of fact and conclusions of law to the NMPRC Commissioners in adjudicated cases involving the regulation of public utilities, telecommunications carriers, and motor carriers.
How does it get done?
Manage and organize complex, multi-discipline, and multi-issue cases. Preside over evidentiary hearings sometimes involving up to 20 parties, 40 witnesses, and thousands of pages of evidence. Write recommended decisions-which are documents similar to court opinions-after reading and analyzing testimony, technical data, and other evidence.

Ideal Candidate
Experience practicing law in areas directly related to public utility regulation Experience as an administrative law judge or hearing officer Educational experience in areas directly related to public utility regulation, such as economics, accounting or engineering Experience practicing law involving substantial research and writing
Minimum Qualification
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and five (5) years of experience in the practice of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), extensive computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
