Responsible for the hiring, training and scheduling of lifeguards & water safety instructors at EmBe. This includes scheduling and staffing CPR/AED Courses for EmBe childcare staff in addition to scheduling lifeguards for pool rentals and water safety instructors for swim lessons (Group & private/semi-private) scheduled at EmBe. The Head Lifeguard will create a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with EmBe policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Ensure EmBe brand, mission, vision, and values are reflected in all interactions.
Interview, hire, and train Aquatics staff as needed.
Actively embrace a culture of empowerment and an attitude of honesty and mutual respect.
Maintain professionalism and take responsibility for actions.
Ability to take direction but also carry out duties independently.
Other duties as assigned.
Aquatics and Red Cross Training
Review staffing needs for a variety of programming and classes; including but not limited to Swimming lessons; First Aid/CPR classes and Lifeguard Training.
Coordinate scheduling of aquatics staff including lifeguards and instructors.
Review Red Cross Certifications for aquatics staff and ensure all certifications are current.
Schedule CPR instructors for all EmBe staff CPR/AED courses offered twice a month.
Prepare lesson plans for swim lessons according to Red Cross standards.
Assist with swim lesson programming data entry in Rec Desk prior to registrations opening.
Report all course completions and swim lessons to the Red Cross.
Provide in-service training for Aquatics staff twice a year on expectations for the pool.
Provides equipment checks & inventories supplies used for lifeguarding, swim lessons and pool usage and communicates needs to the Executive Director for Programs and Operations.
Maintain participation records and perform monthly statistical reporting as required.
Ensure safety in and around the EmBe pool and notify Facilities staff when concerns arise.
Maintain opening and closing checklists for the pool and train aquatics staff on expectations for their shift including customer service.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have at least 2 years of lifeguard or water safety instruction experience.
Previous background with teaching Red Cross CPR/AED courses.
Red Cross Certifications: LG, LGI, WSI & CPRI required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must complete successful background check.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Quickly react by running, jumping, and swimming.
Potential to lift and carry individuals from water.
Perform CPR.
Maintaining high level of alertness and focus.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in an indoor pool environment.
