Job Summary: The Harvard Academy Teacher will provide a rigorous academic environment that actively engages students using the district electronic curriculum delivery tool (Edmentum suite). The Harvard Academy Teacher supports students and provides immediate feedback on their personalized learning.
Qualifications: Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligible for an appropriate license Previous Harvard Academy experience preferred.
Evaluation: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board\xe2\x80\x99s policy on Evaluation of Staff.
Reports to: Assistant Principal
Terms of Employment: This is a four-week position, June 5th - June 29th Hours: 7:30 am. - 12:00 pm or 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday $35 per hour as established by the Board of Education
FLSA Status: Exempt
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates students\xe2\x80\x99 learning in correlation with the Illinois Learning Standards and District identified Essential Standards.
  • Engages with students on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrates familiarity and experience in using the district curriculum delivery tool.
  • Demonstrates commitment to established hours of Harvard Academy instruction.
  • Provides immediate feedback to students remotely.
  • Configures lessons and selects instructional strategies with the intent of ensuring that all students can answer a lesson\xe2\x80\x99s essential question by its conclusion.
  • Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Creates and nurtures a supportive community that promotes personal empowerment, academic growth, and the social-emotional well-being of all learners.
  • Provides students time to interact with instructional resources and materials in a thoughtful, active manner to support their comprehension and long-term retention of information.
  • Allows students to take an active role in their learning by setting and monitoring individualized goals, and processing and reflecting deliberately within lessons through the digital platform of Edmentum.
  • Implements each student\xe2\x80\x99s Individual Education Plan (IEP) as written and collaborates with colleagues to ensure appropriate modifications or accommodations.
  • Assists and provides support to students struggling with social-emotional and behavioral concerns through the MTSS framework.
  • Collaboratively plans with other summer school program teachers.
  • Participates in weekly Professional Learning Communities.

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position include frequent sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Repetitive bending at the waist as well as kneeling, stooping, and crouching to assist students is also required. Regularly walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
