DISTRICT 97 EXPECTATIONS

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The hallway monitor will assist in maintaining a safe and orderly environment by providing support and supervision to students at the middle schools. They will help ensure student safety while at school and will allow for students to be able to travel throughout the school calmly and safely.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:






  • Supervises interior and exterior of school grounds before/after school in concert with other school licensed staff to maintain a calm and orderly atmosphere.

  • Performs regularly scheduled non-classroom supervision duties, supervising students in the commons/cafeteria, indoor assembly areas, locker rooms, outdoor eating areas, hallways and restrooms, on the playground and in other areas to which assigned during passing periods and while class is in session.

  • Enforces safety rules in school buildings and on school property.

  • Locates students who are on school property but not in their assigned classrooms and facilitates expedited arrival to assigned location.

  • Maintains attendance records (digital or other) of students who are not in assigned location and shares data with building administration.

  • Monitors all non-school personnel and directs them to the office or off the school premises as needed.

  • Works with the school staff in ensuring smooth transition between classes in order to create a safe, orderly environment where students can access instruction.

  • Assists with implementing school-wide positive student behavior expectations and incentive programs.

  • Assists with supervision of students assigned to in-school suspension and/or alternative learning environment.

  • Assists with contacting parents/guardians of students to discuss behavior incidents.

  • Reports problems of a serious nature, including recurring behavioral problems and safety hazards to the building administration, or another designated certificated employee in a timely fashion.

  • Prepares written incident reports or other reports as necessary and provides to building administration in a timely fashion.

  • Arrives to work on time and attends work regularly.

  • Represents the school and district with a positive demeanor and appearance.

  • Maintains confidentiality in the workplace - does not share information about staff or students except as provided by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Supervise main entrance to building during evening events.

  • Other duties as assigned.







KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of safety rules and conditions to be maintained by students

  • Knowledge of standards of courtesy and behavior expected by students

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and professionally in all verbal and written communications including writing reports as necessary

  • Ability to communicate with students, faculty/staff, parents, & community members and law enforcement/fire/medical personnel.

  • Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative working relationships with staff and students

  • Ability to create positive, appropriate relationships with students.

  • Ability to concisely present information and respond to questions is required.

  • Ability to effectively operate machinery required for the job (e.g. scanners, computer, phone, two way radio, etc.).

  • Ability to maintain composure in volatile situations.

  • Ability to reduce the level or intensity of a difficult or dangerous situation.

  • Ability to make quality judgments that meet the needs of the students and the school community.

  • Culturally competent with the ability to establish and maintain good working relations with a diverse group of people.







EDUCATION, CREDENTIALING and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma

  • Some College Preferred

  • CPI Training Preferred

  • PBIS and Trauma Informed Training Preferred

  • Experience with adolescents preferred and human services work experience desirable.

  • Professional Educator License with Stipulations, Paraprofessional or Substitute, preferred
