The Group Exercise Instructor leads group classes or programs, to any age-in any style- to any level-, in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Leads energizing, fun, and safe group exercise classes. You pick the style!
2. Maintains education and skills in exercises, techniques, and equipment used during your classes and programs.
3. Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
4. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members and program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
6. Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
7. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
8. Attends required staff meetings and trainings designed for position.
9. Maintains effective communication with supervisor, especially concerning: Safety, Equipment issues, Participant concerns.
10. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
11. Demonstrates and supports the objectives of the Y's mission statement and values by maintaining the Y-Voice in all that you say and do ~ welcoming, hopeful, determined, genuine, and nurturing.
12. Take pride in your workspace and equipment.
13. Come early and prepared for each class.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A passion for exercise and people! (we can help get you trained)
3. Must complete CPR/AED/First Aid Certifications or YMCA approved equivalent.
4. Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred, but not required.
5. At least 18 years of age

All staff, upon hire, are REQUIRED to complete assigned child abuse prevention training within the first 30 days of hire. In addition, staff will be required to complete annual refresher training assigned by the Praesidium Guardian. All staff are required to read and sign our mandatory reporter policy.
