The Grounds Worker position with Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources maintains the landscape and grounds along Raleigh's Greenway trail system, including mowing, planting, and equipment care. This position cleans and removes trash from parking lots, trash cans, driveways, and sidewalks, performs general maintenance of grounds, including mowing lawns, trimming trees, pruning shrubs, edging walks, raking, and gathering litter, plants trees and shrubs and prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged branches, twigs, or leaves.About You: The ideal candidate for the Grounds worker position will be a reliable, safety-conscious, and customer-focused individual with strong communication skills and a solid work ethic. They should be team-oriented, with a passion for parks and community service. A valid NC Class "C" driver's license is required, along with the ability to operate park maintenance equipment and perform preventative maintenance. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Maintains a variety of trail landscapes by mowing, edging, trimming, mulching, and leaf removal.Safely operates and maintains machinery, including out-front and zero-turn mowers, tractors, string trimmers, edgers, and backpack blower.Performs preventative equipment maintenance, including replacing worn or damaged parts, sharpening blades, and greasing machinery.Make minor repairs to greenway amenities and park furniture. Power washes hard surfaces.Pick up trash and litter and remove large debris, including decommissioned park furnishings and illegally dumped items.Works in inclement weather and emergency scenarios like storm response.Keeps trucks and equipment clean and orderly. Maintains and keeps tools and equipment organized.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an outdoor and office environment, street environment (near moving traffic) and in or around vehicles. Employees may occasionally work on a construction site, in a warehouse environment, and shop environment.
