Our Horticulture team looking for a Grounds Maintenance Crew Leader! This position will work lead and work alongside a team of gardeners, maintenance workers, and laborers to ensure the health, wellbeing, and beautification of our community.

Public Grounds is responsible for the design, planning, planting, and management of vegetation along city right-of-ways, facility grounds and beautification projects within Springfield. NOTICE OF EXAM: The eligible list established as a result of this posting will be used for this job classification for a minimum of six months or until the list is exhausted.

Qualifications and Requirements

Experience, Education, and Training

Requires at least three years experience in performing general maintenance of commercial landscape grounds or parks with the operation of medium-duty equipment such as mowers, tractor/front-end loaders, etc.;

AND

Depending on assignment, requires at least three years experience operating backhoes or boom mowers, performing integrated pest management operations or installation and servicing of landscape automatic irrigation systems.

PREFERRED

Experience in directing/leading the work of others.

Licensing/Certification

Must take and pass, at minimum, the written portion of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam (permit) within 90 days of hire. Must obtain and maintain the following within the probationary period: + AED, CPR and First Aid certifications;
+ Valid state Certified Public Operator's pesticide application license in Right-of-way and/or Ornamental & Turf Category;
+ A class "A" or "B" CDL, classification depends on assignment.
Depending on assignment, must obtain and maintain the following within the probationary period: + Valid International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist certification.
