Job Description



The primary job duty of the Graduate Academic Advisor is to provide advising support for all College of Business Graduate programs.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise students registered in all College of Business graduate programs.
  • Guide prospective graduate students navigating the admissions process.
  • Develop and implement an aggressive recruitment strategy for all College of Business
  • graduate programs.
  • Support in the college\xe2\x80\x99s Director of Graduate Business programs with the development of
  • proposals for new graduate programs and any revision to the existing program.
  • Provide support for the College of Business Associate Dean and graduate faculty with
  • collecting and analyzing graduate program assessment data.
  • Train and monitor College of Business Graduate Assistants
  • Serve on the College of Business Graduate Curriculum and Assurance of Learning
  • Committee
  • Maintain effective working relationships with related offices across campus, including
  • Graduate Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to carry out primary duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) as well as SungardHE Banner.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills as required to produce and present information in a concise and compelling manner.
  • Demonstrated strength in interpersonal and organizational skills, high personal energy level, and a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively in an entrepreneurial environment committed to high standards of performance and ambitious goals for growth and institutional development.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and foster collegial relationships with diverse constituencies, such as faculty, students, alumnae, and staff.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with database management.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree from an accredited university (graduate degree preferred)
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel as needed for student recruitment.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
