The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology department has an outstanding opportunity for a GENETIC COUNSELING ASSISTANT (FULL-TIME, DAY-SHIFT)

RESPONSIBILITES
The research coordinator (working title: Genetic Counseling Assistant) provides high level support to a team of laboratory genetic counselors and variant review scientists, within the Clinical Genomic Analyst team (CGA team) at University of Washington Genetics and Solid Tumors laboratory. The CGA team provides technical assistance to ordering providers, triage orders, prepares cases for sign out, reviews data, drafts and reviews next generation sequencing reports for germline and somatic tests performed by the laboratory. Responsibilities of the CGA will also include but not limited to research, administrative, and clinical duties. Individuals in this position will gain first-hand knowledge of patient care and research related to the field of targeted gene panels and exome sequencing related to cancer, prenatal, pediatric and adult onset conditions.
This position will help review insurance denials and help with letters of medical necessity (LMNs) for appeals, help prepare genetic pedigrees with clinical information critical for interpretation of research and clinical genetic studies, help the CGA team develop and implement clinical ordering pathways, assist with review of clinical interpretive reports, and perform literature review for genetic variant interpretation.
Study Coordination (25%)
Coordinate data collection efforts for research and clinical studies within the genetics division laboratories that interface with the clinical genomic analysis team; assist genetic counselors and variant review scientists with research studies including protocol design and interface with collaborating researchers;
Communicate effectively with other researchers.
Clinical Genomics Analysis Team Support (75%)
Review insurance denials and assist with preparing letters of medical necessity; Review narrative interpretive reports prepared by genetics faculty and CGA team members to ensure accuracy and assist with the reporting process; assist with genetics database case creation and entry; review the literature to help with genetic variant interpretation for variants of uncertain significance; assist member of the clinical genomics analysis team in other tasks as needed

REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor\'s Degree in Science or other related fields

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
Experience in HIPAA; study support and/or coordination; collecting and/or coordinating data
Experience in genetics related field - Laboratory experience
