SUMMARY/GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF JOB
Performs tasks related to control, operation and basic maintenance of equipment/machinery for multiple departments and locations, as required. Pay and scope will be based in part on the number of machines operated. Seasonal workers will only perform work during the harvest season. No Driver's license is required. The following duties are typical for the General Equipment Operator position. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address operational needs and changing business practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs pre-operation equipment checks on: fuel, lubricants, water, tires and general condition of equipment.
Operates various mechanical equipment used in harvesting, cultivation, and related applications.
While operators may only operate a set number of machines, pay, premiums, and classification will be based on the number and types of machines operated; tractor attachments will not count as separate pieces of equipment.
Seasonal Equipment Operators will perform work mainly in harvest departments, though may operate other equipment after trained and qualified.
Manual work, as described in the general labor job description, will also be required on occasion.
The types of equipment operated may include, but not limited to, mechanical ground harvester, Monchiero harvester, blower/sweeper, 4 in 1 bucket, nut bin transporter, compressors, wheeled tractor (with attached equipment such as leaf shredders, sprayers, blowers, fertilizer spreaders, mulch spreaders, etc.) forklifts, bucket loader, grader, ATV, spray rig, wood chippers, etc.
Reports daily: hours worked, area covered, required equipment repairs, daily production, and material usage (if applicable), etc.
Responsible for minor maintenance of any equipment assigned to the general equipment operator and any associated attachments.
Maintenance and safekeeping of tools and equipment assigned; daily inspects vehicle, tools and equipment for defects and reports deficiencies to supervisor(s).
Clean work area, including disposal of trash, moving smaller branches or rocks obstructing roadways and work areas, reporting large branches or trees that are down, and other related tasks.
Obey Company rules and regulations
Comply with all safety rules and regulations established for the protection of employees and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned or required

WORK CONDITIONS

Work is typically performed in the outdoors/orchard fields in a variety of weather conditions
May be exposed to adverse conditions such as loud noise, dirt, rain, direct sun, and heat.
Works around plants, dirt, chemicals, and water in fields
Work hours are subject to change, with weekend and/or holiday work as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Stamina: Able to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and squat for extended periods of time
Strength: Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over an extended period; must be physically capable of performing required duties
Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination needed for farm work
Focus: Moderate to high mental and visual attention required in the performance of duties
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities): Any combination of education, experience, skills, and/or abilities that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Mandatory -
Willing to work with and around pesticides and herbicides
Be able to record daily duties, including hours worked and areas covered
Able to use and adhere to rules regarding the use of protective equipment
Have good judgement in the completion of tasks that require thinking and discernment
Clearance to work in the U.S.
Preferred -
Experienced with driving 2 or more of the following: dump trailers, tractors, bulldozer, front end loader, wheeled tractor, road grader, 4 in 1 bucket, tractor trailer, spray rig, and other equipment
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Able to multi-task
Able to carry out simple verbal instructions
Close mental and visual attention required to properly operate equipment and prevent damage to equipment and orchard surroundings
Able to read and write English, follow instructions, and prepare daily reports
Seasonal general equipment operators will only work during the harvest season, on projects, harvest, and general maintenance work, as assigned; work will not extend beyond the harvest season.
Employees will not be paid a trainee rate while training on equipment.
As each operator qualifies for each piece of equipment, their grade will be increased accordingly.
All workers are expected to perform work they have trained to do and equipment they have trained and qualified to operate, as is required by the company; refusal to perform tasks or operate equipment when assigned will result in disciplinary action.
If an operator displays careless behavior with machinery, whether damage occurs or not, disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with company policy.
Worker is responsible for keeping company property clean, including orchard and other work areas; this includes trash disposal (from self or found items) in all areas of the operation.
Worker should display a positive attitude and be courteous and professional their behavior and communication with co-workers, management, business associates, suppliers and vendors, state and federal authorities and the public.

AUTHORITIES AND LIMITATIONS ON AUTHORITY
Reports to: Department Supervisor
Work will be performed in various departments; employee will report to the supervisor or manager overseeing the specific task performed by the employee at the location work is being performed
Limitations: Not operate any registered company vehicles that will be driven on county or State roads.
