Job Description


The ideal candidate for the position has a passion for the arts and wants to share that with the community and established clients. Must-haves: at least a bachelor\'s degree in Art or Art History is required, excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, and strong writing and research skills are necessary. Preferred: Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree is desirable, the candidate has worked in gallery operations in the past and has led some projects, adaptable and calm under pressure. This position is full-time. Our days of operation are Tuesday-Saturday. Availability outside of normal gallery hours is required for occasional evening and holiday events. The Gallery Assistant reports to the Director and works alongside the Office Manager, Gallery Assistant (Shipping & Logistics), Picture Framer, Photographer and other staff to maintain and manage the gallery\'s collection and services through various operational tasks. $16 an hour with opportunity for growth within the fine art industry. Responsibilities and compensation will increase over time to reflect experience. Duties include but are not limited to: Customer Service: Answering the phone, the door, greeting and assisting visitors/clients. Art Appraisal Assistance: Researching and assisting in the preparation of art appraisals. Art Sales: Posting and maintaining accurate records of our collection on 1stDibs and ArtCloud as well as in the physical gallery, assisting with gallery sales including receiving payments and issuing receipts, packing and shipping. Administration: Various duties relating to client relations, art sales, research, invoicing, ordering supplies, database entry, inventory management, and photographing. Writing and Editing: Preparing short and long-form essays and biographical information about artwork and artists for the sake of presenting inventory for sale both online and in the gallery. Art Consultation: Sharing knowledge of art history and interior design and the installation of artworks. Curatorial Assistance: Assisting with organizing exhibitions and gallery events. Directorial Assistance: Assisting the Gallery Director with various administrative tasks.
