The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Ketchikan!

What you will be doing:

Under the direction and supervision of the Ketchikan Area Wildlife Biologist, the Program Technician provides administrative, clerical, public inquiries and technical support for Ketchikan Area management projects, and functions. The incumbent provides support for two permanent full-time wildlife biologists in Ketchikan.

The Program Technician is a part of a three person team dedicated to providing exceptional service to the Ketchikan area, Prince of Wales, and their associated communities. Our office in Ketchikan is the center for information on hunting and trapping regulations for the public in southern Southeast Alaska. Each day provides a new challenge to work independently and make decisions in coordination with NGO\'s, other state, federal, and tribal agencies.

Ketchikan Alaska is located in the Tongass National forest near the Misty Fiords National Monument with breathtaking rainforest and countless outdoor opportunities. The Program Technician is responsible for answering calls, assisting the public at the front counter, and aiding wildlife biologists with a variety of administrative tasks. Our office is located in the First Bank Financial center where the Division of Wildlife Conservation, Sport Fish, and Commercial Fisheries share conference and break rooms.

Special Note:

A valid driver\'s license is required. * Program Technician works 7.5 hours/day, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with a 1-hour lunch break each day.

  • Seals, bears and furbearer hides and skulls may have unpleasant odor.
  • May occasionally assist with field work that requires ability to hike several miles in steep uneven terrain, with a backpack weighing up to 30 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications

Two years of office clerical experience or technical experience related to fish, wildlife or habitat resources;
OR
One year of experience providing advanced clerical services based on established procedures, precedents, and policies in administrative, informative, and/or programmatic functions. This experience includes work such as an Office Assistant 2 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).
