The Idaho Department of Water Resources is seeking a Financial Specialist who is flexible and dedicated to providing excellent customer service, works well in a team-based atmosphere and is able to apply standard accounting principles and practices to perform financial tasks on behalf of the department. This position will manage accounts payable and receivables, grant payments, travel reimbursements and other financial transactions, as well as prepare and maintain financial reports and records.
Example of Duties
Review accounts payable and create payable transactions
Reconcile daily deposits with receipt transactions and monies received at the front desk
Purchase Card (p-card) processing, including financial coding, review, and approval
Function as back-up for payroll processing
Prepare travel reimbursement documents and audit individual travel vouchers for compliance and accuracy
Create journal entries of regional office receipts to the general ledger
Create interagency billings, monitor payments, engage in collections, and update payment status to staff who requested the interagency billing
Minimum Qualifications
Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Desired Qualifications
Experience monitoring and evaluating rules and regulations
Experience with auditing and developing reports for management reviews
Experience in a fiscal or Accounting-related role with the State of Idaho
Intermediate to advanced experience using MS Excel to perform complex financial functions
Experience preparing audit work papers, financial statements, audit reports, and general ledgers
Good knowledge of internal control procedures
Excellent attention to detail
Self-starter with the ability to work with others to gather information and prioritize shifting deadlines
Experience working with automated accounting systems (ex. Luma, STARS)
Experience using State of Idaho STARS or SCO web-based applications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance OR at least four years of professional work experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), usually gained as a bookkeeper, accountant OR an associate's degree in accounting AND at least two years of professional work experience
