Honor the Earth seeks a consultant or temporary employee for management of the 2023 Water Is Life Festival, scheduled for July 16th, 2023 in Bayfront Park, Duluth.
About the Festival:
Honor the Earth is again proud to present the annual \xe2\x80\x9cWater Is Life" music, art and cultural festival at Bayfront Park in Duluth, Minnesota on the shores of the mighty Gichi-Gami (Lake Superior). The day-long music and cultural festival includes local, organic food vendors, regionally-sourced food and beverages, and a variety of organizations centered around sustainability, Indigenous rights, climate and clean water will all be onsite.
Water is Life has become a really unique multi-cultural event in the climate justice world over the last few years and has increasingly showcased women singer songwriters and Indigenous artists from across genres and generations. Past musical performers include Bon Iver, Dessa, Tia Woods, Ani Difranco, and Honor the Earth co-founders the Indigo Girls.
Duties:
Create and manage a plan for the festival including promoting Honor the Earth\xe2\x80\x99s mission, staging a successful event incorporating arts, food, music and community partners.
Festival Management
  • Create and manage an overall budget for the festival that generates positive revenue for the organization.
  • Recruit sponsors for the festival who provide publicity, financial donations, and program support for the festival and Honor the Earth\xe2\x80\x99s mission.
  • Work with festival\xe2\x80\x99s Artistic Director and Honor leadership team on plans around artists and programming and coordinating with venues and agents
  • Communicate with project partners including festival First Avenue, Bayfront Park and site specific vendors, hotels, and all other necessary parties regarding infrastructure needs, costs and plans
  • Coordinate a volunteer team for staffing tents, track pick-up, runners, backstage needs.

Provide the details necessary for Honor Staff and/or subcontractors to:
  • Coordinate / book travel and lodging for artists and staff
  • Coordinate / book flights for non-local artists
  • Provide backstage / hospitality coordinator for artist hospitality & riders

Record Keeping and finances:
  • Create and track an event budget
  • Track festival expenses
  • Store a copy of all contracts, invoices, and planning documents in a shared folder accessible to Honor the Earth management.

The position will begin as soon as filled and run through the end of July, 2023.
Compensation:
Negotiable based on experience and availability, approximately $5000 per month for full-time period in June - July.
