Optimize the health, development, education, and well-being of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through a family-driven, equitable, community-based system of high-quality prenatal and early childhood programs and services.
The Early Childhood Education and Care Department was established on July 1, 2020. The Department's aim is to create a more cohesive, equitable, and effective early childhood system in New Mexico. That means coordinating a continuum of programs from prenatal to five and ensuring that families in every corner of the state can access the services they need.
Why does the job exist?
This position directly supervises at least two full time Regional Registered Nurse Supervisors and provides direct support to program supervisors and state program staff. This position may also serve as a back-up to the Senior Nurse Manager (Bureau Chief) with daily operations of their program in their absence.
How does it get done?
This position directly oversees programmatic implementations, including strategic approaches, quality improvement projects and initiatives, and contractual compliance support. It collaborates with other members of bureau management in the development and implementation of nursing competencies, as well as programmatic policies and procedures.
The individual in this role will monitor and ensure compliance with departmental, state, and federal regulatory and safety policies and guidelines, in collaboration with the Senior Nurse Manager (Bureau Chief). They will also ensure adherence to mandatory nursing standards and home visiting standards within the programs work areas.
Additional responsibilities include providing orientation and support to program staff, and offering education and guidance on scheduling and supervisory skills to subordinate supervisorsboth nursing and support staff. They will act on leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary actions to the Senior Nurse Manager (Bureau Chief).
This position requires making well-informed, effective, and timely decisions, while understanding the impact and implications of those decisions. Other assignments and projects may be completed as directed by the Senior Nurse Manager (Bureau Chief).

Minimum Qualification
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and four (4) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.
Employment Requirements
Candidates must hold and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Mexico, as well as a valid drivers license. Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Direct client interaction and some travel may be required.
