POSITION SUMMARY:
Have a desire to learn the internal workings of a Compliance team? As an Intern at Amtrak, you will learn the foundational principles that drive compliance with applicable federal and state laws. You will work under close supervision of the HR Compliance and Risk Management team and in collaboration with key partners in areas such as: Law, HR Operations, Drug & Alcohol, and Payroll.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Individuals in this role use strong communication, time management and critical thinking skills to:

  • Research legal requirements of various HR laws
  • Perform audits and compliance reviews of Amtrak HR policies and procedures
  • Assist in the review and development of desktop procedures and job aids
  • Coordinate tasks in support of small projects
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Management, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Human Resources or related field
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong MS Excel experience (including V Lookup, Pivots, Dashboards)
  • Some administrative experience in an office setting.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week between Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.

Please be advised that the Fall 2023 internship program will run from September 18th - April 26th (full academic year).

In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. \xc2\xa71143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
