DIRECT ACCOUNTABILITY:

Sr. Director of Facilities Operations


SUMMARY:




The Facilities Maintenance Technician II will work to maintain, repair, and refurbish existing physical


and audio visual exhibits. The primary focus of this


cleaning of the facility and the exhibit components ensuring they are maintained to a high level, and


conducting or arranging repairs when required. Will participate in the set up and take down of


traveling exhibits; and participate in the conceptualization, design, engineering, and fabrication of


future permanent or traveling exhibits. Candidate must be a "self-starter" with a strong customer


service ethic, the ability to analyze situations and troubleshoot problems, and deliver appropriate


solutions.


QUALIFICATIONS:



Minimum two years experience performing building preventive maintenance. Working knowledge of


building mechanical equipment. Skilled with the use of maintenance tools and equipment, forklift,


scissor lift, and boom lift. Knows basic carpentry techniques, hand tools, power tools, basic electrical


wiring and lighting, paints, adhesives, and associated safety practices. Ability to access all areas of the


museum and theater to perform building maintenance, such as basic plumbing, electric, AC, and


carpentry. Basic understanding of computer and audio-video equipment, with the ability to learn


new skills in regard to operating and maintaining specialized A/V equipment and software. Must have


capacity to work in a fast-paced environment, able to analyze situations, responding quickly to deliver


effective solutions. Must be able to work in high spaces 30' and higher, lift 50 lbs., and work in


awkward


area to area as the situation demands. Must have availability to work weekends, evenings, and


holidays as needed. Must have a valid driver license. Personal vehicle ia a plus and insurance if using


personal vehicle to pick up and drop off parts, etc.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



1.

Patrol the museum floor including behind public access throughout your shift. Check each


exhibit minimally every hour to make sure it is in good, safe working order.


2. Monitor all areas of the facility and grounds on a regular basis to ensure problems are


corrected immediately and normal deterioration is kept to a minimum.


3. Proactively clean and maintain the floor exhibits on a daily basis. Including making sure the


exhibits and exhibit areas have proper lighting.


4. Diagnose causes of damage or failures of exhibit modules and initiate repairs.


5. Fabricate, repair, or maintain other items for the Museum's use, such as display modules for


the store, cabinets for office use, etc.


6. Evaluate, repair, and maintain plumbing, mechanical equipment, electrical, and HVAC


systems in building.





7. Maintain a record of work orders for building maintenance.


8. Load and unload traveling exhibit crates from trucks at on-site and off-site locations.


9. Unpack, set up, and provide daily maintenance of traveling exhibits in traveling exhibit hall.


10. Maintain a polite and informative attitude when dealing with staff always and with the


public during maintenance which occurs during public hours.


11. Identify, locate, order, pick up (using the Museum vehicle or your own vehicle), or receive


special materials and hardware needed for exhibit fabrication or repair.


12. Maintain work areas and tools in a clean and professional manner.


13. Always maintain corporate safety procedures and comply with access control regulations.


14. Work with minimal supervision. Communicate with facilities management about any work


that requires outside expert assistance.


15. Receive and respond to employee reports of mechanical or maintenance issues on the


premise.


16. Work with tools and supplies necessary to complete projects (i.e. Repair rest room fixtures,


office furniture, and hang pictures, bulletin boards, plaques, etc.


17. Repair or replace floor tiles, rugs, dry wall, ceiling tiles, doors, windows, etc.


18. Replace light bulbs and ballasts, make minor electrical repairs.


19. Assemble new furniture, shelves, desks, chairs, etc.


20. Perform minor wood working and construction projects.


21. Enact pressure cleaning of exterior walls, atrium, balconies, etc.


22. Perform landscaping and maintain exterior lighting.


23. Maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke, and other safety systems within the structure.


24. Calibrate instruments and tools required for job responsibilities.


25. Assist with the security of the building as needed.


26. Perform other related duties as assigned and qualified.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:



This job operates in a professional museum environment. Will need to work with modern


technology including walkie talkie radio, computer, microphones, and tablets.





PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



This job operates in a fast-paced, informal educational museum setting. Must be able to


perform the following physical behaviors repetitively throughout a shift: standing, walking,


handling, reaching horizontally, grasping firmly, reaching above the shoulder, reaching below


the waist, pushing buttons, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling,


pushing, sitting on the floor and carrying items upstairs. Must be able to work in high spaces


30' and higher, and work in awkward


a day at a bench or moving from area to area as the situation demands. Must be able to lift and


carry up to 50 lbs.

This is a full-time, non-exempt


through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. May be required to work


some evenings, weekends and/or holidays .


TRAVEL:



Local day travel may be required. May be asked to drive MODS vehicle/own vehicle to pick up


supplies.


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



High school diploma or GED and minimum one year experience performing building preventive


maintenance.


ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS:



Must have valid driver license.
