Job Description


Overview:
The Executive Director of Analysis, Assessment & Accreditation (AAA) at Utah State University (USU) reports to the Executive Vice President (EVP) and leads the planning, operations, and management of AAA. Responsibilities include both institutional research and regional accreditation for USU. Reporting by AAA includes both IPEDS and State (non-financial) reporting to the Utah System of Higher Education, as well as many regularized outside reports (CSRDE, U.S. News & World Report, APLU, OSU and AAUP salary surveys, Student Achievement Measures, FAEIS, ASPIRE, and others). The Executive Director serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) at USU for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and leads the University\xe2\x80\x99s NWCCU assessment and accreditation work. The AAA Office also manages course evaluations (IDEA SRI), Digital Measures/Faculty Success, and significant survey activities. The Executive Director leads efforts to create a culture of data-informed decision making and problem solving through the provision of analysis, tools, dashboards, reports and other dynamic resources that leverage data throughout USU. The Executive Director supports systemic and ad hoc reporting and analysis for the following stakeholders: EVP, President, Provost, NWCCU, USHE, Utah Legislature, VPs and senior administration (e.g., Research, Statewide, Student Affairs, DEI, etc.), Deans, Department Heads, faculty, students, and the general public. Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, assign, supervise, motivate, and evaluate AAA staff [current staff count = 7].
  • Manage the AAA budget, aligning resources to the mission and strategic goals of the AAA Office and the Office of the EVP and to the professional development of AAA staff.
  • Develop and improve AAA processes, systems, and technology to support data-informed decision making at USU and to fulfill all current and future reporting responsibilities.
  • Ensure all reporting deadlines are met to the highest standards of accuracy.
  • Advise senior administration on important trends and opportunities through careful review and analysis of all available data, and effective presentation of that analysis.
  • Serve as the ALO for NWCCU and fulfill all requirements to sustain regional accreditation; this includes support and management of the University Assessment Coordinating Council.
  • Seek to solve problems, develop clarity, and identify opportunities in line with the USU mission, vision and strategic plan and objectives.
  • Manage USU\xe2\x80\x99s Student Ratings of Instruction (IDEA); also known as course evaluations.
  • Manage USU\xe2\x80\x99s Digital Measures/Faculty Success faculty activity tracking system.
  • Make University data available and actionable through dashboards and reports while maintaining the highest standard of data security and protection (including FERPA). Tableau serves as the primary tool for this work currently, and dashboards and analysis are designed, developed and released by AAA for both internal (protected) and external stakeholders,
  • Coordinate with other USU offices and stakeholders, as needed, to meet data and reporting needs, to provide support with external stakeholders (NSF, etc.), and to serve as a resource and repository of experience and best practices for data analysis, data visualization, survey development and analysis, and outcomes-based assessment and planning.
  • Serve on committees and advise senior leadership as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master\'s Degree in an applicable field.
  • Understanding of federal and state reporting for higher education.
  • Desire to lead and develop a data-informed culture within a large organization.
  • Strong data analysis and data visualization skills.
  • Experience leading and motivating a team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master\'s Degree in an applicable field plus four years of relevant experience or PhD.
  • Tableau (data visualization) experience; Tableau certified preferred.
  • Management or leadership experience in an institutional research environment.
  • Experience with regional accreditation requirement and responsibilities; ALO experience and/or experience with NWCCU regional accreditation (e.g., peer reviewer) preferred.
  • Strong technical skills (programming, data visualization) and/or experience managing a strong technical team; knowledge of Microsoft SQL (server) would be ideal.

  • Excellent written communications, editing, and qualitative analysis skills and the ability to write and communicate to a complex variety of stakeholder groups.
  • Very strong computer skills in data development and analysis (Excel, Tableau, statistical software, etc.), and communications (Word, PowerPoint, web tools, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to set outcome goals, motivate performance and achieve results.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships with a diverse set of internal and external partners.
  • Strong customer service skills and desire to solve problems with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong leadership, management, and team building skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple priorities and meet fixed deadlines.
