Executive Director, Advanced Academics

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in the field of education and a valid state of Mississippi educator license with an endorsement in gifted education (207) and an endorsement in administration (486, 487, 488, or 489) required
  • Minimum of three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 teaching experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience as a director of district-wide and / or state-level programs
  • Minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience evaluating programs of study and school systems
  • Possess extensive knowledge and skills in the administration and supervision of advanced learning programs of study, including but not limited to, Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement programs, International Baccalaureate programs, Arts Access, APAC, Montessori, Gifted Education, dual enrollment and credit programs, and honors and / or accelerated courses
  • Extensive knowledge of state- and federal laws and regulations pertaining to advanced learning, including but not limited to, gifted education program
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Possess the skills necessary for establishing and maintaining rapport with personnel, parents, and the public
  • Knowledge of computers, related technology, and software
  • Possess experience for delivering and facilitating professional growth opportunities and coaching for teachers and administrators
  • Possess extensive knowledge of best practices in instructional programming that will produce advanced rigor and relevance in teaching and learning practices

Job Goal

The Executive Director is to assist the District\xe2\x80\x99s Administrative Team in the planning and implementation of Advanced Academics

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical expertise regarding assigned essential functions
  • Formulates and develops policies and procedures as appropriate
  • Reviews and evaluates program services and makes necessary adjustments as needed
  • Serves as the state-level gifted education contact person for the district
  • Serves as a delegate with the national College Board
  • Serves as a member of the District\xe2\x80\x99s AdvancED team for accreditation and accountability
  • Develops and continually assesses academic standards, content standards, and academic performance as they relate to measureable school performance and student outcomes
  • Develops and implements short- and long-term plans and activities, including prioritizing available resources
  • Ensures honor society bylaws and regulations are implemented with fidelity in all participating schools
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files and assures accuracy of local, state, and federal reporting in regards to accreditation and accountability, as well as teaching and learning in program schools
  • Communicates with other administrators, school system employees to coordinate activities, services, and programs, to resolve issues and conflicts, and to exchange information to assure effective and productive services
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of office staff, makes recommendations for assignments of personnel, and informs office staff of appropriate opportunities for professional growth
  • Develops and maintains the office\xe2\x80\x99s annual budgets for supporting teaching and learning in advanced learning programs of study, analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data, monitors and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established guidelines and procedures
  • Monitors and reviews existing and proposed local, state, and federal laws and regulations impacting teaching and learning in advanced learning programs of study
  • Assumes the responsibility of acting as a representative of the district\xe2\x80\x99s advanced learning programs of study, as well as district-wide events and services, including but not limited to, Reading Fair, Science Fair, Challenge Bowl, Spelling Bee, Scrabble and Chess tournaments, academic-related competitions, Students Helping Others Planet-wide culminating event, and arts education rehearsals and performances.
  • Develops surveys and evaluations to measure implementation levels of advanced learning programs of study and supporting professional growth opportunities
  • Organizes survey and evaluation reports to share results with district leadership and the Board of Trustees as appropriate
  • Makes on-site school visits to observe implementation of programs of study
  • Develops in collaboration with leadership teams strategic plans for continuous improvement and sustainability of programs of study
  • Continues professional growth by attending education-related meetings, workshops, and conferences, visiting related schools and school districts, reading professional literature, and participating in online webinars and workshops
  • Works collaboratively with Partners in Education to seek a variety of services through community resources and agencies to support advanced learning programs and services
  • Participates in the screening and selection process for administrators and coordinators of advanced learning programs of study as appropriate
  • Participates in school- and district-level evaluation teams for students participating in advanced learning programs, including but not limited to, the Local Survey Committee (LSC) for gifted education program students as appropriate
  • Assists in the selection of instructional resources and materials used for teaching and learning in advanced learning programs of study
  • Ensures all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students\xe2\x80\x99 privacy, as it relates to the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Provides information to community groups, parents, and news media concerning programs of study as requested by working in conjunction with the Office of Public Relations
  • Provides professional growth opportunities and / or technical assistance for teachers, counselors and administrators through individual or group sessions designed to support teaching and learning
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning students\xe2\x80\x99 academic and behavioral progress while participating in advanced learning programs of study
  • Completing reports for appropriate local, state, federal and national educational agencies
  • Attends and participates in district leadership meetings or other meetings as requested or required
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board\xe2\x80\x99s policy on evaluation of personnel.
