Equipment Operator

• Department: Civil
• Supervisor: Project Superintendent
• Compensation: Davis Bacon Non-Exempt
• Location: Kodiak Island, Alaska

Housing on Kodiak Island and Per-diem will be provided. Employees to provide their own vehicle transportation to and from the jobsite daily. We will pay for ferry transportation on and off the island for their POV s at the start and end of employment.

POSITION SUMMARY

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment, such as dozers, excavators and/or loaders. May repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform equipment operation as directed by the Civil Superintendent
• Operate equipment in a variety of weather
• Check equipment to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
• Follow appropriate safety procedures for working onsite
• Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, or other workers
• Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
• Comply with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, statutes, ordinances, rules and laws
• Comply with company safety policies and procedures
• Perform other related activities as assigned
• Must be willing to travel, if required

Position Requirements

• Ability to obtain a base pass for working onsite
• Ability to read, write and communicate as it relates to the job and to the safety regulations
• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) or equivalent

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high and/or precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
