Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position is allocated to the Environmental Health Program of the Department of Health in Leon County (DOH-Leon). The incumbent in this position is regularly responsible or the compliance of onsite treatment and disposal systems with the appropriate Florida Statues, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C) requirements and any local requirements relating to permitting and construction of OSTDS.

-Regularly coordinated with the public and private engineers concerning the design and installation of OSTDS in the Leon County. Conducts routine site evaluation and performs soil sampling and related analysis in compliance with Chapter 381 F.S., Chapter 64E-6 F.A.C., Leon County Ordinances and the Leon County Health Department. Performs appropriate tests or analysis for the above and collects necessary samples as needed.

-Performs routine construction installation inspections, reinspection\'s for OSTDS ensuring compliance Chapter 64E-6, F.A.C., and applicable local regulations with the Leon County Ordinance. Ensure proper documentation of system compliance or provides applicant and septic system contractor with documentation detailing the necessary corrective action.

-Reviews onsite sewage disposal system permit applications and site evaluation information to establish system construction criteria in compliance with appropriate Florida Statutes, Chapter 64E-6 F.A.C. and any local requirements applicable to the assigned counties.

-Investigates complaints and takes the necessary enforcement actions to gain compliance. Provides technical assistance and consults with the public, engineers and other governmental agencies to resolve any potential sanitary and environmental health hazards.

-This position may be required to function in other Environmental Health programs areas as assigned by the supervisor including providing emergency relief coverage in food program in extenuating circumstances.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Use of personal vehicle required. Required to use transit/builder\'s level. MUST become State certified in the Food Hygiene program during the probationary period. The Incumbent will obtain Onsite Treatment and Disposal Systems certification within 1 year from hire. Knowledge of terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of physical/natural sciences. Knowledge of data collection and analysis. Ability to perform site inspections, collect or evaluate, analyze, and interpret scientific data. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques. Ability to determine work priorities.

Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Driver\'s License is required. Certification in Food Hygiene Programs / 381.010 ss. A bachelor\'s degree from accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences, environmental health, public health, or engineering.
