Job Description

re you interesting in contributing to the protection of California's natural resources? Come join CDFW and help us expand our statewide ecological data network! Under close supervision of the Wildlife Branch Lands Program Manager, the incumbent performs a variety of duties leading the installation, management, and data analysis of climate and biodiversity sensors for the CDFW Climate-Biodiversity Sentinel Site network throughout California. The program aims to assess the potential impacts of climate change on biodiversity and provide data for adaptive management in support of the Department's mission. Duties include collecting field data with climate sensors, camera traps and acoustic recorders; helping to deploy MOTUS towers (used to track migratory wildlife); process field data using newly developed artificial intelligence tools and online platforms; identifying bird and bat species; mapping habitat features with GoogleEarth and ArcGIS; and compiling information for reports, publications, and presentations.



The Environmental Services Intern classification is a non-testing classification.

The language below is required for these NT classifications.

Working Conditions


Field duties include frequent long-distance overnight travel for multiple consecutive weeks and may require rigorous physical work under variable conditions in the field. Office duties in non-field season months involve use a computer keyboard several hours a day and attending virtual or in person meetings. This may necessitate sitting most of the time and walking or standing for brief periods.
