Job Description





As a 5-week English enrichment summer program for Middle School aged students, this position will work closely with the Teacher to engage program participants in educational activities within one of our two Middle School English Enrichment Program (EEP) classrooms. This program offers students continuity of linguistic and mathematic learning through the summer, supporting a foundation for continued learning. This program is located at Hunt Middle School (HMS) and many students transition into the Winooski- Burlington School District (BSD) Expanded Learning Middle School Summer Program at 12pm, which also operates out of HMS.

Classification: Exempt, Seasonal
Reports To: Middle and Teen Programs Director
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The program operates from June 26th through July 28, 2023


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the classroom\xe2\x80\x99s EEP Teacher, providing assistance as they develop and lead the classroom curriculum.
  • Support the implementation of lesson plans for your classroom, supporting developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster a linguistic and mathematical foundation for students.
  • Assist with providing support for the academic and social needs of participating youth.
  • Assist with providing an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for youth.
  • Support students in making positive behavior choices by observing student behavior, assessing its appropriateness, and applying appropriate behavior management techniques, positive redirection, or appropriate corrective action as necessary, in coordination with the classroom Teacher.
  • Promote healthy choices, prosocial behavior, and a growth mindset among students and staff.
  • Work with all SHCC staff and partners to ensure program safety and a supportive environment, including collaborating with Winoosk-BSD Expanded Learning Summer Program staff.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with fellow EEP Teachers and Assistants.
  • Assist with accurately completing and submitting incident reports, attendance, receipts, and other program-related materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in staff and student matters.
  • Maintain cleanliness in all program areas; assist with the setup and breakdown during program day to contribute to ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the space clean and orderly.
  • Ensure all program activities and operations adhere to SHCC and BSD policies and procedures.
  • Accept the role and responsibilities of being a mandated reporter for child abuse/neglect.

Qualifications:



Education:
Bachelor\'s Degree, complete or in process
Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with Middle school aged youth
  • Experience planning and implementing creative, positive, and healthy youth programming for elementary schoolers, including knowledge of youth development principles


Skills & Requirements:
  • Ability to relate and form positive relationships with youth
  • Knowledge of current youth issues, concerns, and trends
  • Solid understanding of positive youth development, risk, and protective factors
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, public & private sector officials, parents, and community leaders.
  • Commitment to social justice and openness to learn and grow in our practices with children, youth & families.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity with others.

Salary

$18 - $18 per hour
