About this position
The overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of drafting, design, survey, and/or water resources work in the District Design Office.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus three years of sub-professional engineering experience; OR
Eighteen semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:

  • Coordinate and support the district bidding and contract award process to ensure compliance with DOTD specifications and Public Bid Laws.
  • Assemble construction proposals and contract documents, including plans, specifications, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates and contract time calculations using established guidelines and engineering judgment.
  • Manage bid proposal distribution, verify contractor eligibility, and conduct public bid openings.
  • Review bids for compliance, enter bid data into DOTD systems, and support the bid review and award process.
  • Prepare and process construction contracts, including award letters, tracking project status from bid to execution, and distributing finalized contract documents.
  • Coordinate with district staff, project engineers, and headquarters personnel during plan development and project delivery.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of construction plans to ensure compliance with design standards, specifications, and departmental policies.
  • Perform engineering computations and plan development using computer-aided design tools and standard software.
  • Review plans and quantities for accuracy and completeness; make revisions as needed.
  • Support special projects (e.g., architectural, enhancement, or aviation projects) as assigned.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies or disaster response activities, when required.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty.
Compensation: Engineering Technician 5 - Starting salary is $24.04/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
