Position Description:
P4FIP (Precinct 4 Forward Internship Program), is an 9-week paid summer internship for students with a passion for serving others. You will be surrounded by team members who bring "heart, hustle, and higher standards" to work each day. These leaders advance opportunity and justice as they deliver services to and advocate for the residents of Harris County. The team you will be joining is innovative, dynamic, and forward-looking. We've designed our program to expose students to career opportunities with Harris County and apply what they have learned in the classroom to hands-on projects. P4FIP provides students the chance to bridge the gap between academic understanding and practical professional experience. Students from all schools, and students who identify with a group that is historically underrepresented, including but not limited to Black, Hispanic, Native American, students with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply. Interns will create a community to help support their personal and professional development throughout the summer as they launch their career. Interns will work with a mentor, form relationships with other interns, and engage our Senior Leadership Team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Project Manager(s) to implement/manage assigned projects and programs from inception to construction including feasibility studies, preliminary engineering design, budgeting, resource allocation, bidding phases and construction.
Complete analysis of roadway condition and serviceability data to determine potential future projects undertaken by Precinct 4.
Provide technical assistance preparing various forward-looking planning documents, in conjunction with Precinct 4 staff, outside consultants and staff augmentation.
Complete research on various transportation, drainage, and other relevant topics, synthesize findings into a briefing for senior staff.
Provide support on the development of briefing materials and presentations to be presented to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders.
Prepare correspondence, complete forms, and maintain records and files related to work activities.
Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements
Education and Additional Requirements:
Students working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in project management, construction management, civil engineering, or a similar curriculum.
Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Work independently with limited supervision, relative autonomy, and general review.
Requires excellent organizational skills.
Ability to undertake new tasks with little guidance or direct assistance.
Utilize good time management skills and effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks/initiatives.
Must be self-motivated and team oriented.
Must be able to solve simple mathematical problems associated with normal work situations.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
Able to communicate effectively with co-workers, industry and/or governmental representatives.
Strong skills using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
