Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Coordinator provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. In collaboration with the patient, the patient\xe2\x80\x99s family and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and coordinates treatment plans. Responsible for the daily activities of: scheduling, selection and maintenance of equipment, collection of data for quality improvement processes, Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of patient care on assigned unit and shifts. Educates individuals and groups, in nursing care requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill derived from the principles of biological physical, behavioral, social and nursing sciences. Provides direction to the development and evaluation of assigned nursing personnel. Maintains operational aspects of the patient care unit in collaboration with Unit Director. Maintains educational records of staff, plans and implements educational opportunities for the Associated Departments to include: PICU, NICU, Pediatrics, Emergency Room and Transport Services. Contributes to nursing and Hospital through support of philosophy and objectives, educational and research efforts. To anticipate and estimate future needs of the department to improve the quality of patient care. Develop and maintain competencies of transport staff through skills fairs and education. Director is responsible for the recruitment and retention of competent transport staff. Responsible for community education and outreach regarding the services and opportunities related to the transport team. To collaborate and coordinate the efforts of the staff to accomplish the mission of Las Palmas Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Demonstrates knowledge and application of advance patient care, to include vital signs, venipuncture, urinary catherization, cardiac .monitoring, nasogastric tube insertion, medication administration as per the medical provider, ACLS and 12 lead EKG.

2. Blood glucose monitoring, patient transfers \xe2\x80\x93 lifts, immobilization techniques, basic wound care and dressing changes, assist with emergency procedures and equipment/supplies, pulse oximetry monitoring and oxygen delivery device application.

3. Monitors and recognizes changes in the patient\xe2\x80\x99s behavioral and physiological status and takes appropriate action based on assessment.

4. Utilizes professional skills and judgment to perform assigned nursing treatments and procedures for a group of patients.

5. Develop and administer neonatal, pediatric and adult services as necessary.

6. Promote a multidisciplinary coordination of services, such as, nursing medical, respiratory care, laboratory, pharmaceutical and public relations.

7. Participate in record keeping, collection, and input of transport data in order to provide Quality Improvement and statistical analysis.

8. Control processes related to Human Resources under the direction of the Director to include hiring, evaluating, terminating, counseling, coaching and development of the staff.

9. Direct and approve the practice of professional nursing and respiratory and support positions within the services provided to maintain quality patient care through implementation and evaluation of clinical practice standards.

10. Under the direction of the Director help to develop, interpret, inspect and review policies and procedures within the services provides.

11. Under the direction of the director develop, institute, review and implement Disaster Preparedness policies and procedures for the organization.

12. Collaborate, develop and participate in marketing of the Department, including educational program development, external advertising and working in alliance with local and regional programs.

13. Ensure compliance with guidelines/regulations of overseeing agencies/organizations.

14. Responsible for twenty four-hour coverage for problem solving as necessary.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Current Texas Registered Nursing license or identified compact state license. (*If compact license, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire or establishment of Texas residency, whichever occurs first)
  • BLS required as per St. David\xe2\x80\x99s HealthCare/ Las Palmas Del Sol Policy. Required upon hire
  • ALS required as per St. David\xe2\x80\x99s HealthCare/ Las Palmas Del Sol Policy. Required upon hire
  • ENPC required as per St. David\xe2\x80\x99s HealthCare/ Las Palmas Del Sol Policy. Required within 12 months of hire
  • TNCC or ATCN required as per St. David\xe2\x80\x99s HealthCare/ Las Palmas Del Sol Policy. Required within 12 months of hire.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification. Required within 60 days of hire and annually
  • Annual Education: As a Registered Nurse caring for acute stroke and trauma patients, you will be required to complete assigned stroke and trauma education upon hire and maintain annual stroke and trauma education per your unit direction
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Preferred experience as RN of 5 years in Emergency Department
  • Specialty certification/training as appropriate
  • Read and write basic English with the basic skills necessary to understand and transfer physician\xe2\x80\x99s orders
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Ability to move an excess of 100 pounds with assistance from other staff
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to work as a team member with a team to ensure quality patient care
