Job Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on support to trouble-shoot and identify solutions related to power plant electrical equipment.
  • Design or evaluate and support, new equipment additions during construction, commissioning, and start-up, including layout, DCS integration and functionality, cable tray layout, junction box wiring, cable schedule, breaker, and electrical protective system sizing, in accordance with Project documentation.
  • Review documentation and/or information, drawings, etc., supplied by vendors and verify proper integration into Project. This will include ensuring that the vendor has provided the required equipment at job site and/or at supplier site.
  • Understands basic facility operations to maintain all compliance requirements. Notifies Supervisor/Manager if non-compliance occurs.
  • Produces, contributes and/or issues all operational reports performance and related operational data as required by the O&M service agreement, corporate directives, or jurisdictional agencies.
  • Assists plant management with performance projections to help optimize the cost effectiveness of various operational strategies or maintenance scenarios.
  • Assists plant management with projections of operational data for the support of logistics, budgeting and forecasting efforts.
  • Assists plant management with utility planning and scheduling coordination, dispatch responses and output management contract compliance.
  • Plan and provide outage notices to agencies and clients as needed.
  • Providing technical expertise guidance, and training, to plant personnel.
  • Completes special projects/assignments, and performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Read and interpret electrical manuals, schematic drawings, P&IDs, blueprints and other technical documentation.

Electrical Engineer Prerequisites

High school diploma or equivalent, plus a bachelor\'s degree in electrical engineering. A minimum of one (1) year of practical engineering experience in power plant or similar industrial process environment. Solid knowledge base and understanding of industrial plant instrumentation and process control systems. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to review and interpret electrical single line diagrams, electrical generation station and power system layouts, Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID), instrumentation list, Input/Output (I/O) list with calibration ranges, trips and alarm settings, sizing calculation for electrical systems and on-line equipment, technical data sheet for electrical equipment and instruments, and control systems including Distribute Control Systems (DCS) and fire and emergency shutdown systems. Must possess a valid driver license.

Electrical Engineer Essential Functions of the job

The ability to speak, read, and write in English. Ability to perform light physical work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis, performing tasks requiring manual dexterity (such as keyboard and ten-key device operation), and such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks.

Electrical Engineer Working Conditions

Typically works in an office environment and will require occasional/frequent travel to remote plant facilities. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, dirty, quiet, noisy, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include CTS, minor cuts, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Safety critical position.
