Job Description


Status: Full Time - 80 hours

Hours: 7A-4P; Varies

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Educational Services Specialist is responsible for assessing learning needs, plans/organizes, implements, conducts, evaluates, and revises educational and staff development programs according to educational standards, policy and procedures using the principles of adult education. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Requirement:

  • Current Licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse (if an RN) or other appropriate certification/licensure if non-nursing;
  • Master\'s Degree in Nursing, Education, Information Technology, or other healthcare related field required.
  • Experience with training, learning design and development, e-learning concepts, tools, and instructional design knowledge is preferred.
  • Must be able to adapt and handle multiple projects with different priority levels.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare, educational, or informational technology experience required.
  • BLS Certification required.
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills; Ability to use various A/V equipment and computer programs.
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of basic statistics.
Job Functions:

Education Specialist:
  • Using the educational process and collaboration skills assesses learning needs, plan, develop, implement, and evaluates the outcomes of evidence based/best practice education; Education is based on environmental scans, gap analysis, and trending needs of physicians, nursing, and other hospital staff for the organization.
  • Collaboratively formulates & maintains educational programs in response to strategic objectives of the organization; service line; quality and patient outcome data; regulatory standards, and annual needs assessment.
  • Collaborates with departments, education coordinators, and leaders in the development of education and/or programs. Serves as an educational expert, mentor to educators, and liaison for content experts.
  • Acquire continuing education hours for various healthcare disciplines to maintain compliance for contact hour providerships obtained in Educational Services.
  • Maintain records, reports data, and provides reports pertinent to regulatory agencies, education or programs, departmental goals, key metrics, or quality data.
  • Ensure the standards of the American Heart Association programs, RQI and other accrediting agency for required certifications are upheld. Support staff certification through instruction.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, IT, department leaders, and education coordinators to maintain organization new hire orientation, onboarding, and initial and annual validation of staff competence.
  • As a change agent facilitates communication, collaboration of key stakeholders, workflow design, and implementation of an education plan because of accreditation of regulatory standards, process improvement, LEAN, quality review, or best practice.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
CME Specialist:
  • Assesses learning needs, plans, develops, implements and evaluates education programs based on these needs for physicians; nursing and other hospital staff (NPs & PAs) for the Memorial Health System.
  • Formulates education programs in response to the strategic objectives of the Memorial Health System; quality and patient outcome data; regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and annual needs assessment.
  • Collaborates with physicians, PAs & NPs, nursing, administration, and clinical and non-clinical departments to develop appropriate physician education based on evidence based best practice. Evaluates the impact of education on patient outcomes and quality metrics.
  • Develop and acquire continuing education hours for the physician education programs. Maintain the standards and accreditation compliance for physician providerships (ACCME and AOA Medical Society).
  • Assists in the formation and revision of goals, policies or procedures related to physician education for the Education Department, and participates in the review and revision of physician education.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records pertinent to educational programs and departmental operations.
  • Facilitates the communication; workflow design; implementation and education plan of changes as a result of accreditation and regulatory standards; process or system improvements as a result of LEAN, quality/process review, etc.; or from best practices.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, the CME committee, and other hospital employees to achieve the desired outcomes with physician education.
  • Collaborate with physician recruitment and liaison services to assist with the onboarding and orientation physicians across the health system.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
