Job Summary ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: Editors review, edit, and produce documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, presentation, classification, citation, and source standards. They correct documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, and they provide guidance to authors to ensure accuracy, completeness, organization, logic, clarity, relevance, and consistency. Editors format documents, verifying portion markings and overall classification of intelligence products. They process and disseminate documents in many hardcopy, softcopy, and web formats. They also write reports, briefings, articles, and procedures. Additional Job Information ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: *** This position supports a 24x7 mission and may require working nights and weekends occasionally. *** NGA seeks editors to join one of its teams working in Springfield, VA. Editors edit, format, and disseminate various geospatial intelligence reports according to established agency publication policies, the NGA Style Guide for GEOINT Products, and Intelligence Community sourcing standards. They review products dealing with complex analytical intelligence issues and provide guidance to geospatial intelligence analysts and other editors regarding logic, clarity, comprehensiveness, relevance, and brevity. They verify classifications provided by analysts or direct them to classification management teams. The Band 3 editor will be expected to multitask, prioritize, and rapidly adapt to changing organizational requirements while producing error-free material. The editor will be expected to review and analyze draft material for clarity, consistency, style, format, logic, and organization, as well as grammar, word usage, spelling, and punctuation. The editor will be expected to uphold the highest level of support to the agency by establishing effective cross-functional team relationships and cultivating a positive customer service environment. Mandatory Qualifications MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated formal editing experience, including an intermediate knowledge of copyediting, highly developed grammar and writing skills, and familiarity with and ability to use style and usage guides. 2. Demonstrated experience in critical thinking/problem identification and analysis, initiative, quality control, and creativity in problem solving. 3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with customers/authors and colleagues within the production/publication process. 4. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications. 5. Demonstrated ability to manage work time, adapt quickly to changing needs, and track and complete projects across varying stages of development. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, English, Journalism, or a related field. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience reviewing, editing, and producing documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, presentation, classification, and sourcing standards, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years experience reviewing, editing, and producing documents in accordance with language, style, publication, format, presentation, classification, and sourcing standards, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. Highly Desired Qualifications QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Demonstrated knowledge of the GEOINT mission and related intelligence products, processes, and classification and sourcing guidelines. 2. Experience SharePoint, Web development, Adobe Creative Suite, and other production/knowledge management, design, and dissemination software tools. 3. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and professional communication skills, both written and oral. Additional Job Requirements You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule PROMOTION OPPORTUNITY: Promotion opportunities allow applicants at all band levels to be considered. Qualifications for NGA positions do not include specific time-in-band requirements. NGA will emphasize quality of experience, rather than duration, and assess how the quality of the experience demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance in the NGA occupational structure.
