We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, seniors, and those requiring specialized assistance in various care settings. The ideal candidate will be committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents through personalized care, ensuring safety, and fostering independence. This role involves working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and home & community care environments. Prior experience in healthcare or caregiving is preferred, but training will be provided for qualified applicants. The position requires a genuine passion for caregiving, patience, and strong communication skills.
Duties
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
Monitor residents' health status by observing patient behavior and vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse
Administer medications and document medication administration accurately following HIPAA guidelines
Support residents with meal preparation, feeding, and nutritional needs while adhering to specific dietary plans
Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, including dementia, Alzheimer's, memory care, autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental disabilities
Use assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts to safely transfer residents with heavy lifting needs
Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being
Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and sanitation
Follow safety protocols including CPR and first aid procedures to respond effectively during emergencies
Document observations related to patient care, behavioral changes, or incidents in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Collaborate with healthcare professionals such as nurses and social workers to ensure comprehensive resident care
Requirements
Prior experience in home & community care, assisted living, nursing homes, hospice care or working with people with disabilities is highly desirable
Knowledge of patient observation techniques and vital signs monitoring
Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dementia is a plus
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary
Strong communication skills and patience when working with residents of all ages who may have complex needs
Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality
Valid driver's license is a plus for community-based services but not mandatory
Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to improve the lives of others
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in various care environments
