Domestic Violence Outreach and Community Education Advocate

Outreach Advocates play a crucial role in providing support, education, and resources to individuals affected by domestic violence and sexual assault in the community. They work tirelessly to connect survivors with essential services, raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, and promote prevention efforts. This frontline position involves direct engagement with survivors, collaboration with community partners, and participation in outreach activities to empower individuals and foster safety and well-being.
Responsibilities:
Direct Support and Advocacy:
Provide compassionate support, crisis intervention, and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, including safety planning, emotional support, and assistance accessing resources such as emergency shelter, legal services, counseling, and medical advocacy.
Conduct needs assessments and assist survivors in identifying their goals and priorities for safety and healing.
Empower survivors to make informed decisions about their options and rights, respecting their autonomy and confidentiality.
Community Outreach and Education:
Engage in community outreach activities to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault, their impact on individuals and families, and available support services.
Develop and distribute educational materials, resources, and presentations to community members, professionals, and organizations.
Participate in outreach events, workshops, trainings, and presentations to promote understanding, prevention, and intervention strategies.
Partnership and Collaboration:
Build partnerships with community organizations, social service agencies, law enforcement, healthcare providers, schools, faith-based groups, and other stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts and coordinate service delivery.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including domestic violence shelters, legal advocates, mental health professionals, and child welfare agencies, to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.
Crisis Intervention and Response:
Respond to crisis calls, walk-ins, and referrals from community partners, providing immediate support and assistance to individuals in crises.
Conduct safety assessments and develop safety plans tailored to survivors' unique needs and circumstances.
Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of survivors and their families.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, services provided, and referrals made.
Complete required documentation and reports by organizational policies, funding requirements, and legal mandates.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality protocols and ethical standards in handling sensitive information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in advocacy, crisis intervention, or social services, especially in the context of domestic violence or trauma.
Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and cultural competence.
Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care principles, and confidentiality protocols.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to collaboration and mutual support.
Flexibility, resilience, and a willingness to adapt to the diverse needs and circumstances of survivors and communities.
