Position summary

As an integral part of the Sales team, the Distribution Sales Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Book Publishing is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring a strategic sales plan for Solution Tree and Marzano Resources print and electronic (\xe2\x80\x98eBook\xe2\x80\x99) resources in key market segments. This includes key accounts in retail, wholesale, and specialty channels, with the opportunity to manage world renown clients such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Follett, and Ingram.

Additional responsibilities of the Distribution Sales Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Book Publishing may include management of term-of-contract outside sales groups. This could include working with institutions of higher education or possibly even smaller book distributors.

This is a remote position, and the overall territory includes accounts in both the United States and Canada. There is the possibility of other international accounts as well.

The incumbent can reside most anywhere in the contiguous United States and will report to the Vice President of Sales. The selected candidate will enjoy a competitive base salary, commission program, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Maintain and increase sales of Solution Tree and Marzano Resources through frequent interactions including in-person sales calls with account base
  • Forecast and attain annual sales budgets
  • Develop and maintain key relationships across Distributor Sales market segments including key accounts, retail bookstores, promotional resellers (educational dealers), and higher education decision-makers
  • Develop new partnerships with current accounts by working on marketing and co-promotional opportunities with the Solution Tree and Marzano Resources Marketing Department to approve \xe2\x80\x98co-op\xe2\x80\x99 budgets for key accounts
  • Collaborate with key support functions within Solution Tree and Marzano Resources including Customer Service, Marketing, Press, IMS, and Finance to improve customer service and to manage customer relationships
  • Provide marketplace feedback to departments while attending quarterly scheduled team meetings
  • Manage travel and expenses allotment within the annual T&E budget
  • Work toward enhancement of Solution Tree and Marzano Resources profiles in the marketplace through the continuation of relationship building with key customers, increasing knowledge of the textbook market, and supervision of overall sales efforts
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the book publishing and distribution arena
  • Experience managing related accounts such as Barnes & Noble, Follett, and/or Amazon preferred
  • Highly motivated, self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong in cross functional collaboration and proven experience working with internal teams to maximize selling opportunities and customer experience
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • High-energy; thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, sales environment
  • Technologically proficient with Salesforce.com, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time, including overnight stays

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The Distribution Sales Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Book Publishing must have excellent written, verbal, and auditory communication skills and ability. Light lifting will be required on occasion.

The Distribution Sales Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Book Publishing must also have a valid driver\'s license and be physically able to drive and travel. Travel for this role is estimated at 20% of the time to attend vendor events, client meetings, and department/company gatherings.

Position Type

This is a full-time position. Days and hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Travel is required as job duties demand and is estimated to be approximately 20% of the time, including overnight stays.
