Provide strategic guidance and manage execution of media relations. Foster strategic storytelling for HPU platforms and build a productive relationship with the media to ensure consistent coverage that reflects the university\xe2\x80\x99s culture and commitment to student success. Serve as a main point of contact and supervise others who serve as main points of contact with the media by proactively assigning, editing, writing and sharing positive university stories and strategically responding to inquiries. Contribute to overall university communication initiatives in a variety of ways, including completing and supervising others who complete the following: regular communication with campus stakeholders; press release writing and distribution; covering university events for stories; drafting HPU News video script and coordination; statement, fact sheet and feature story writing; content curation and repurposing; media coverage archiving and distribution; report generation; and more.

Education
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree required


Experience and Training
  • Minimum three years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in marketing or similar field. Candidate should have proven success in obtaining positive media coverage on behalf of an organization or client.


Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
  • Ability to serve as a positive representative and trusted member of HPU\xe2\x80\x99s Office of Communications
  • Ability to tell stories and respond to inquiries in a way that positively and efficiently promotes HPU
  • Ability to find, write, copy edit and fact check news releases and stories that positively promote HPU\xe2\x80\x99s goals and priorities
  • Ability to work in a team setting throughout the creative process, including receiving constructive feedback and compiling edits on assignments, editing the assignments of others, and submitting stories through the proper approval channels.
  • Develops and enhance relationships with a variety of media for the purpose of securing positive HPU coverage that promotes the university\xe2\x80\x99s goals and priorities
  • Strategically manage news release assignments, approval and distribution schedules.
  • Identifies new media opportunities that would result in positive coverage and relationships
  • Effective writing and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Photoshop and PowerPoint
  • Ability to organize workflow and coordinate numerous deadlines
  • Unmatched attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform under stressful situations
  • Superior knowledge of English writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, editing and different writing styles
  • Professional ability to write, edit and compile all required content for storytelling that supports HPU\xe2\x80\x99s growth
  • Ability to strategically work with the media to generate positive coverage


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Promotes HPU\xe2\x80\x99s goals and priorities by serving as a main point of contact with the media and working with others who serve as main points of contact
  • Know and be ready to passionately share with media what makes HPU distinct and worthy of positive news coverage
  • Regularly fulfill assignments for news releases and other projects. Meet due date deadlines for edits and approvals. This includes covering events, conducting interviews, scheduling photos and more.
  • Proactively find, assign and write/edit positive press releases, feature stories, media pitches and other written content for a wide range of media outlets.
  • Maintains high level of organization for story deadlines, press release calendars, photo requests and related files to ensure great stories are told in a timely and effective manner
  • Completes regular requests for official university information and interviews in a way that positively reflects HPU\xe2\x80\x99s culture and commitment to student success
  • Serves as an alternate media contact when others are away
  • Contributes to and update media aspects of the university\xe2\x80\x99s crisis communication plan
  • Develops new editorial calendars that connect HPU stories with major publications, while overseeing the team who maintains existing calendars, such as the press release schedule and media contact lists for local, regional and national markets
  • Submits photography requests and other elements needed for story coverage
  • Collaborate with academic schools with the purpose of promoting timely faculty expertise, research and student stories throughout the year
  • Ensures all projects are completed with a high level of enthusiasm, excitement and accuracy
  • Follows the appropriate approval and copy-editing processes
  • Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students\xe2\x80\x99 parents, faculty, co-workers, managers and direct reports
  • Stay up-to-date on new technologies and trends related to media relations and storytelling
  • Other duties as assigned


ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Ensures the University is well represented in the media
  • Ensures media relations team meets objectives and deadlines
  • Achieves positive media coverage on local, state and national levels
  • Writes and produces a variety of stories and content that positively promote HPU
  • Manages university PR partners
