Job Description




Director of Individual Giving Northern Stage, a dynamic LORT-D professional theater with a budget of $4 million in
White River Junction, Vermont, seeks a Director of Individual Giving as we continue to
build our Development Department. This position will be responsible for a portfolio of
donors capable of making annual gifts of $5,000+. Northern Stage actively engages audiences with world-class productions and extensive
educational and outreach programs and serves more than 50,000 community members
each year. Founded in 1997, Northern Stage has since become the preeminent
year-round theater company in the region, offering professional productions of world
premieres, classics, and musicals. The Director of Individual Giving is a vital member of the four-person Development
team. This individual will be an enthusiastic, innovative, and entrepreneurial fundraiser
who will help build out individual giving programs that deeply engage donors in our
mission and the work we produce. Reporting to the Director of Development, the
Director of Individual Giving will play a key role in the ongoing Act II Capital Campaign.
This individual will be a creative thinker, a proactive communicator, and an eager
collaborator, and will be an important senior voice in the company\xe2\x80\x99s external affairs
strategy.
Primary Responsibilities

  • With the direction of the Director of Development, develop and implement
comprehensive qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
for 75-100 Individual prospects, including corporate partners.
  • Secure major gifts at the $5,000-$50,000 level with the goal of raising $500,000
annually.
  • Qualify identified prospects through individual visits, adding individuals to the
overall pipeline.
  • Promote maximum involvement with and giving to Northern Stage, including
campaign, annual, and planned gifts from identified portfolio of prospects.
  • Devise individualized involvement/engagement strategies for all prospects using
\xe2\x80\x9ctop-down\xe2\x80\x9d approach to ensure that highest rated prospects receive the most
attention.
  • Schedule appointments and oversee the preparation of necessary materials,
including campaign documents and funding proposals for all assigned prospects.
  • Identify prospects to participate in specific Northern Stage events, committees, or
other programs that promote the cultivation process.

  • Plan and oversee occasional development events of varying scale.
  • Ensure stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and
current-use funds. Qualifications Desired
The ideal candidate will have three years or more of experience in a Development
office, preferably with experience soliciting and closing gifts of $5,000 or more. This
candidate will be able to set strategic goals and see them through to timely completion,
and will have a demonstrated record of meeting fundraising deadlines and metrics. This
individual will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be able to
handle sensitive and confidential matters with appropriate discretion. The candidate will
possess strong organizational skills and individual initiative, as well as strong analytical
and planning skills. Compensation: $57,000-67,000 annual (exempt), commensurate with experience,
plus dental and vision benefits, opt-in 403(b), paid time off, and other benefits.
