SALARY:

$103,599 plus competitive benefits package (WVDE Summary of Benefits) equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation?



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


+ Lead the planning, organization, implementation and support for all activities related to developing West Virginia school principals as instructional leaders.


+ Provide statewide leadership for West Virginia Department of Education Consolidated Plan Additional Targeted Support Schools (ATS).


+ Provide statewide leadership for Elementary, Middle, and Secondary school principals.


+ Oversee the program of administration and provision of technical assistance to Elementary, Middle, and Secondary school principals.


+ Lead all professional development content and creation for the office in collaboration with other WVDE offices and division as appropriate.


+ Collaborate with other WVDE offices to maximize state and federal resources in support of the West Virginia Board of Education/Department of Education Strategic Plan.


+ Collaborate with all offices and divisions to promote, implement, and support the State Superintendent's goals and ensure advancement of the vision and mission of the West Virginia Department of Education.


+ Perform other assignments as deemed appropriate and necessary by the State Board of Education, Deputy Superintendent, and the State Superintendent of Schools.





QUALIFICATIONS:

+ A minimum of a master's degree in administration, curriculum and instruction, or content area and a valid WV Professional Administrative Certificate.


+ Three years of administrative or supervisory experience.


+ A strong knowledge base of national and state school/district reform initiatives as well as knowledge of strategies to promote leadership development and educator effectiveness.


+ A demonstrated ability to plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate the program-related activities of staff.


+ Excellent ability to communicate, both written and verbally, with individuals and groups in a professional manner and on a high level.


+ Strong facilitation, organization, and strategic planning skills.


+ Excellent financial planning and management skills.


+ The demonstration of a broad range of knowledge and professional experiences at the state, county, and /or school level in curriculum, instruction, and supervision.


+ Demonstrated understanding of goals and priorities of the West Virginia Department of Education and the West Virginia Board of Education.

+ The staff member understands that work assignments may change or be added, as priorities emerge with the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE).





EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP:



Department of Education staff are employed upon recommendation of the State Superintendent of Schools and are state employees. No representative or employee of the state is authorized to enter into any employment contract or other agreement. Department staff work under the direction of the State Superintendent of Schools for the general supervision of the free schools in the state and implementing the policies of the board and other necessary tasks as determined by the State Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. Each employee is "at-will" and subject to termination by the State Superintendent of Schools at any time, with or without notice, cause or compensation.



The employment relationship between the State Superintendent of Schools and the employee may be terminated by either party. Reasons for termination by the State Superintendent of Schools include, but are not limited to, immorality, incompetency, cruelty, insubordination, intemperance, willful neglect of duty, unsatisfactory performance, the conviction of a felony or a guilty plea or a plea of no contest to a felony charge, misuse of funds or property, violations of law or policies of the state board, lack of need, or a lack or loss of funding.
