TITLE:

Director, Center of Data Excellence





JOB OVERVIEW:

The Director, Center of Data Excellence will lead the strategic direction, operational execution, and continuous improvement of data-driven and system initiatives for Valley Medical Center. This role is responsible for building and maintaining a culture that promotes high standards of quality, security, innovation, and integrity in data management and software use. The Director will collaborate across departments to ensure systems are accessible, actionable, and used to support improved healthcare outcomes, operational efficiency, and strategic decision-making. As a key leader, this role will advocate for best practices in data governance, analytics, and technology to drive insights and support a patient-centered care model.

PREREQUISITES:



Master's degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Health Informatics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, required.

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or informatics in a healthcare setting, required.

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience, including direct supervision of staff, strategic planning, and operational oversight, required.

Current Cogito Project Manager certification is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Proven leadership experience in building, leading, and scaling high-performing teams.

Demonstrated strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to set priorities, produce accurate work, and meet deadlines; ability to function in a setting with a wide variety of duties and numerous interruptions.

Mastery of analysis and troubleshooting.

Mastery of healthcare computing environments.

Mastered ability to be self-directed, learn quickly with strong attention to detail.

Proven record of excellent communication and organizational skills.

Proficiency in data management and analytics tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, and data warehousing solutions.

Requires prolonged periods of sitting and prolonged exposure to computer monitor and keyboarding.

Requires the ability to move PC's and printers weighing up to 40 lbs.

Strategic Leadership and Vision

+ Develop and execute the vision and strategy for the enterprise systems, aligning with the organization's mission and goals.
+ Drive the adoption of a data and technology driven culture across the healthcare organization, promoting data literacy, operational efficiency and advocating for alignment of systems to promote compliance with regulatory changes.
+ Lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of high-impact initiatives, fostering innovation and growth.
+ Develop and monitor department annual operating and capital budgets to meet the needs of the organization.

- Establish and enforce governance frameworks to ensure quality, security, compliance, and ethical use of all systems and data.
- Oversee data and software lifecycle management, from acquisition to archiving, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and privacy in alignment with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
- Champion initiatives for continuous improvement in data quality, standards, and procedures, working closely with stakeholders in clinical, operational, and administrative areas.
- Analytics and Data Science Leadership


Guide advanced analytics, business intelligence, and data science projects that improve healthcare delivery, operational efficiency, and strategic insights. Collaborate with analysts and BI developers to implement predictive models, machine learning, and AI solutions tailored to healthcare needs. Develop and oversee data visualization and reporting tools that enable real-time, actionable insights for clinical and business leaders. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

+ Serve as a primary liaison between IT, clinical staff, business operations, and executive leadership to align system and data initiatives with organizational priorities.
+ Lead workshops, training, and knowledge-sharing sessions to promote data literacy, user empowerment, and adoption of new tools and processes.
+ Build strategic partnerships with external vendors, industry experts, and academic institutions to stay current on trends, technologies, and best practices.
+ Team Development and Leadership


- Recruit, mentor, and lead a team of data professionals, including data governance specialists, BI developers, and analysts.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within the CoDE team, providing opportunities for skill development and growth.
- Set performance goals and metrics for the team, ensuring alignment with department objectives and organizational impact.
- Conduct performance evaluations, delivering constructive feedback, coaching and guidance to support employee growth and accountability.
- Technology and Innovation


Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art data technologies, tools, and platforms that enhance data accessibility, scalability, and analytic capabilities. Promote automation, integration, and interoperability within the data ecosystem to streamline workflows and support rapid response to healthcare challenges. Lead initiatives for data security, cloud migration, and system integration in collaboration with IT and cybersecurity teams.
