Job Summary


As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. Your compassionate support will empower clients to achieve their personal goals and foster independence in their daily activities. You'll work closely with individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community environments, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care and support.

What you'll do



Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them with daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation. Assist with medication administration (if trained) as prescribed, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and personal growth. Maintain cleanliness and organization within living spaces to create a safe and welcoming environment. Utilize specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe mobility assistance when needed. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care strategies tailored to each client's unique needs. Provide emotional support and companionship to enhance clients' quality of life.

Basic qualifications



Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or mental health diagnoses are highly recommended Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques to ensure client safety in emergencies. Familiarity with memory care practices, including Alzheimer's and dementia care strategies. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility challenges. Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and team members.

Preferred qualifications



Previous experience in home health, hospice care, or long-term care settings is a plus. Background in social work or related fields that emphasize caregiving skills. Understanding of patient observation techniques for monitoring changes in client behavior or health status.
