Job Description

POSITION: Direct Care Staff (DCS) FLSA Status: Non-exempt (hourly) REPORTS TO: Facility Manager/QIDP



NORMAL: All shifts available, including weekends

SUMMARY




As a DCS, you play a crucial role in helping us provide compassionate care and support to individuals who need assistance with daily living due to an intellectual, developmental or cognitive disability in a community based, residential facility, performing a variety of functions as assigned by the company.

JOB DESCRIPTION




Direct Care Staff shall perform duties as directed by the posted duty list and from Facility Manager/QIDP. All duties are expected to be completed successfully to meet performance requirements.



Job Duties/Functions: All locations must have 3:1 ratio of staff for safety purposes.

Medical/Physical Care



Provide continuous supervision to clients served. Clients may never be left unsupervised or unattended. Responsible for documentation in all required areas within the medical program for follow through of treatment and data collection. Helping clients be mobile, getting up from bed, or seated positions. Assist with administering medication, checking vitals. Coordinating and communicating with LVN or RN on medical matters that require their level of assistance.

Grooming/Cleaning/Cooking



Assist with grooming and hygiene in an appropriate and professional manner. Prepare meals in accordance with the client treatment plan and dietary needs Assist with general household management, as well as cleaning including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, removal of trash, washing dishes, laundry etc.

Activities/ Appointments



Know and follow the client's program plans and activity schedule. On occasions provides transportation and accompaniment on personal or medical appointments as needed. Completes or assists with other errands as needed Providing emotional and social support to client and/or family

General Safety



Assists in creating a safe and therapeutic environment, respects each client's dignity and protects their rights. Ensure the safety of clients and homes must be always maintained, safety checks are routinely done. Oversee the maintenance and care of all medical equipment and supplies. Follows and implements all company policies and procedures in accordance with state, local or federal regulatory governing agency requirements.

Administration/Reporting/Documentation



Monitoring and recording client information and appropriately report any usual occurrences. Adherence to Mandated Reporter responsibilities related to any perceived forms of abuse.

Staff Meetings



Required to attend inservice training 3 hours per month Other staff/House meetings to gain further knowledge of programs and operations.

Other duties may be assigned by direct supervisor or manager, as deemed operationally necessary.

Essential Duties:




1. Assist clients with self-help care skills, such as eating skills, personal hygiene, toilet training and household management duties.


2. Provide continuous supervision of the clients served. Clients must never be left unsupervised unattended or out of 3:1 staff/client compliance


3. Perform basic nursing procedures as instructed. When certified by the Registered Nurse, will administer treatments and medications as ordered by the Physician.


4. Follows and implements facility's policies and procedures in accordance with the State/Federal regulations.


5. Reports significant observations to appropriate client and takes effective action.


6. Assists in creating a safe and therapeutic environment, respects each client's dignity and protects their rights.


7. Transport/Escorts clients to appointments and recreation activities.


8. Meals are considered "on duty". Employees are not relieved of their duties to have their meals and agree to an on-the job paid meal period.


9. Adhere to the Company's Standard of Conduct and Policies and Procedures according to local, state and federal regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Must be 18 years of age. Must maintain a Current CA Driver's License, with no restrictions (Drivers ONLY) Acceptable results of a preemployment background check (CA Department of Public Health) Acceptable results of a preemployment 5panel drug screen

ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAM AND BACKGROUND SCREENING



Physical exam TB chest Xray (every 5 years) Drivers ONLY will have DMV MVR Report screening quarterly check (must provide proof of vehicle Insurance) Drug Testing (reasonable suspicion)

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/ONGOING TRAINING REQUIREMENTS



Must learn and understand Clients Rights. Must learn and understand Mandatory Reporter Training Ongoing Company Staff Meetings and Trainings CPR/First Aid (must be complete within 7 days of date of hire and maintain active certification during employment) Attend Medication Certification Class and be certified by RN within sixty {60 days) from date of hire. (Additional training may be requested by RN if needed) For ICFDDN facility it will be required to do additional training to meet the client's needs (Gtube certification, Oxygen Cylinder training, or any other special procedures needed)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS



Ability to walk, stand for long hours, bend, squat, push and lift frequently. Daily, weekly, hours vary per shift but up to 8l0hours Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally (Daily, weekly, or as needed) Ability to assist an individual with unsteady gait. The Company follows the employment provisions of the (ADA) Americans with Disabilities Act.

WORK ENVIRONMENT



May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. Use of equipment (stove, microwave, wheelchair, blood pressure cuff, Fridge/Freezer thermometer, fire/sprinkler alarm use, other medical or household equipment) Exposure to mechanical moving parts Hoyer lift, shower chairs and Hospital beds Will work with individual(s) with aggressive and verbal behaviors May occasionally drive/Assist other staff and managers with clients to their community outings, doctor's appointment and/or hospital/ER visit. Meals are considered "on duty". Employees are not relieved of their duties to have their meals and agree to an onthe job paid meal period.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS



Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions Ability to interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to verbally communicate in an effective and professional manner that is clear and concise.

REASONING ABILITY



The ability to apply common sense and good judgement to carry out tasks where specific written/oral instructions are provided or where only limited standardization exists.
