General Position Description
Oversees Valencia\xe2\x80\x99s college-wide study abroad and global experiences (SAGE) programs, including inbound short-term programs, internationalization at home, and the Valencia Global Distinction program. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, plans, and initiatives to further internationalization goals and culture. Develops and supports international partnerships to promote global experiences and new programs.

Description of Job Function
1. Develops a strategic plan for the SAGE department in collaboration with department leadership, that is consistent with the college\xe2\x80\x99s mission, strategic objectives, values, vision, and policies.

2. Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of SAGE programs including study abroad, short-term programs, exchange programs, grants, global learning, and the Valencia Global Distinction program. Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of short-term non-degree programs for local and international students and partners.

3. Advances the college\xe2\x80\x99s efforts in internationalizing the curriculum and increasing global learning. Supports global events, including International Education Week. Partners with academic and support units across the college to support internationalization efforts.

4. Develops and supports partnerships with local and international organizations, including recruitment representatives, partner institutions, and government entities in support of the department\xe2\x80\x99s strategic goals.

5. Identifies, develops and responds to opportunities for creating new short-term educational programs tailored to the needs of prospective partners; seeks grant opportunities; conducts needs assessments to determine goals and performance needs of clients; reviews and critiques performance solutions, products, and curriculum; prepares proposals and presentations.

6. Develops, reviews, and updates policies and procedures associated with the daily operation of the unit; evaluates and makes recommendations on resource and staffing needs to support programs and initiatives.

7. Ensures institutional and collaboration activities comply with appropriate legal, accreditation, and professional standards. Ensures compliance with the U.S. State Department for the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program (BridgeUSA).

8. Oversees the daily management of the unit including hiring, evaluation, and development of direct reports; creates a culture of staff development that emphasizes continuous improvement, customer service, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

9. Oversees campus visits for international visitors and delegations, including meetings with administration, faculty and staff, cultural aspects, dining, and other logistics.

10. Reviews, evaluates, and executes contractual agreements with partners, program providers, and outside vendors. Develops and administers budgets.

11. Oversees the development and implementation of marketing plans in support of SAGE programs. Reviews and manages the team tasked with the SAGE website content to ensure that all information and forms are routinely updated.

12. Researches, articulates, and disseminates information regarding industry trends and best practices in areas pertaining to this position.

13. Leads teams that generate reports on SAGE programs and activities; provides progress and status updates to leadership and ensures delivery of special reports to outside agencies.

Required Minimum Education
Bachelor\'s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.


Required Field of Study

Demonstrated experience with creating and managing study abroad programs.

Administrative and supervisory experience.

Budget development and management experience.

Experience in developing international partnerships and agreements.


Required License/Certification



Preferred Qualifications



Preferred Education & Field of Study
Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree from a regionally accredited institution.


Preferred Type of Experience
Experience living, studying, and/or working abroad.

High proficiency in at least one language other than English relevant to a country or region that is a desired market for international program development.

Working Conditions



General Working Conditions
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets, and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; type/keyboard; and talk or hear. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning, and exchanging information.
