Location: Orlando, Florida USA
Position Type: Full Time | Exempt

The Senior Design Engineer develops system concepts based on customers needs and wants, timeline availability, as well as budgetary requirements using various PLC platforms. After visualizing the project\xe2\x80\x99s concept, it is up to the Senior Design Engineer to put together a complete controls package encompassing electrical and mechanical drawings and documentation needed to define the electrical and control elements of the system. This controls package will be used for electrical installers, programmers, and graphics developers. Additionally, the controls package will be used for materials, labor assignments, resource allocation as well as commissioning and startup and future troubleshooting.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Create bills of material, produce AutoCAD drawings, and estimate labor costs while building a project from idea concept to the point where a fully developed engineering design can be built and programmed by other engineers
  • Lead and train other engineers in the techniques required to design, program, and troubleshoot Material Handling Systems
  • Review and evaluate vendor technical proposals to ensure they meet functional and technical requirements and participate in vendor selections
  • Work closely in a team environment management and project teams
  • Communicate with other groups within Tompkins (i.e., project management, consulting, sales/proposal department, and installation managers)
  • Work closely with clients and contractors
  • Troubleshoot automated material handling equipment (i.e., motors, various bar code scanners, variable frequency drives [VFD\xe2\x80\x99s], programmable logic controller [Siemens and Allen Bradley], photo-eyes, and encoders) as well as other electrical controls equipment
  • Identify, initiate, and implement improvement activities
  • This position requires occasional on-call after hours support
  • This position requires occasional travel



Job Requirements (minimum):
  • Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineer or similar discipline (IE) with 4-6 years of experience
  • Associates degree in an Engineering discipline with 8-10 years of experience
  • Proven ability to lead others
  • Moderate skill level in AutoCAD with the ability to produce electrical and mechanics drawings from scratch
  • Ability to successfully understand PLC programs for material handling systems (Siemens or Allen Bradley) both preferred.
  • Ability to PLC program is a bonus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and MS Project software
