Job Description


Tewksbury Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking a visionary leader to join our dynamic team as the Deputy Director of Facilities and Life Safety. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare facility management. As a key member of our Facilities Management Team, you\'ll collaborate with Senior Leadership, Facilities Management, and Department Supervisors to champion life safety, environmental safety, and emergency preparedness standards. Your mission: to maintain a secure and compliant environment that fosters healing and innovation.

The Deputy Director will also lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of hospital services, programs, policies, and procedures, in line with our mission and accreditation standards. You\'ll be the driving force behind the Facility\'s Environment of Care Program, ensuring top-notch compliance with regulatory codes and standards such as The Joint Commission (TJC), NFPA, and CMS. As a creative problem solver, you\'ll manage regulatory testing and inspection programs, crafting solutions to ensure seamless adherence.

Please Note: This is a full-time 37.5-hour position. The days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

\xc2\xb7 Lead the Hospital\'s Environment of Care Program, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, including TJC, NFPA, and CMS.

\xc2\xb7 Manage regulatory testing and inspection programs, coordinating corrective actions for adherence to codes and standards.

\xc2\xb7 Design and implement policies, databases, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and facilitate proper record keeping.

\xc2\xb7 Oversee maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance, equipment management, and projects through the Capital Asset Management Information Systems (CAMIS).

\xc2\xb7 Develop and monitor standard operating policies, records management, and preventative maintenance plans for equipment.

\xc2\xb7 Oversee emergency management planning, serving as the leader of the Emergency Management Task Force.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborate on cross-agency initiatives for renovations, capital projects, and emergency planning.

\xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with Design and Construction Laws in project bidding and implementation.

\xc2\xb7 Audit state contracts with vendors and billing for DCAMM ISA\xe2\x80\x99s to ensure accuracy.

\xc2\xb7 Track and manage capital and operational projects, leading bi-weekly meetings with direct reports and management.

\xc2\xb7 Prioritize patient safety and hospital priorities in a timely manner.

\xc2\xb7 Act as the facility\'s Emergency Management Coordinator, ensuring preparedness and effective response.

\xc2\xb7 Manage contracted biomed vendor services, ensuring compliance with medical equipment regulations.

\xc2\xb7 Oversee Maintenance, Equipment Coordinator, Locksmith, and Environmental Health and Safety staff, conducting routine supervision and annual evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications:

\xc2\xb7 Master\'s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Healthcare Administration, or a related field, demonstrating a strong academic foundation for strategic leadership.

\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of the principles of DCAMM (Department of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance); Public Contracting through the Office of the Inspector General; Design and Construction.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of industrial safety, occupational safety, and industrial hygiene and life safety.

\xc2\xb7 Extensive knowledge of regulatory codes and standards, including TJC, NFPA, CMS, and state-specific regulations, ensuring meticulous adherence and compliance.

\xc2\xb7 Proven track record in emergency preparedness and response planning, with experience leading multidisciplinary teams through crisis situations.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated success in overseeing complex projects, utilizing methodologies such as PMP, to ensure efficient execution and delivery.

\xc2\xb7 Adept at identifying and implementing creative solutions to operational challenges, fostering continuous improvement in safety and efficiency.

\xc2\xb7 History of effectively managing diverse teams, inspiring collaboration, and driving performance through mentorship, coaching, and fostering a positive work culture.

\xc2\xb7 Previous leadership roles within healthcare facilities, hospitals, or similar settings, highlighting an understanding of the unique challenges and priorities in patient care environments.

\xc2\xb7 Skilled in budget management, resource allocation, and cost-effective strategies, contributing to the financial health of the department.

\xc2\xb7 Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams, government agencies, and external partners to achieve common goals.

\xc2\xb7 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, One Drive, Planner, and Teams

About Tewksbury Hospital:

Tewksbury Hospital operates a 375-bed facility and a campus of over 700 acres of land. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the administration of a Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Medicine as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a 6-chair dialysis suite, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language, pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation and arts, and pharmacy. Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least (A) five (5) years of full-time or, equivalent part-time, professional, administrative, supervisory, or managerial experience in business administration, business management, public administration, public management, clinical administration or clinical management of which (B) at least one (1) year must have been in a project management, supervisory or managerial capacity or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I. A certificate in a relevant or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required (A) experience.

II. A Bachelor\'s degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of the required (A) experience.

III. A Graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for three (3) years of the required (A) experience.

IV. A Doctorate degree in a related field may be substituted for four (4) years of the required (A) experience.
