Deputy Community Development Director
Hiring Range: $9,160 - $10,311 per month

About the Position

We are seeking a highly capable and experienced Community Development Department Deputy Director to assist in overseeing and coordinating the programs and operations of our division. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and supervising a team, ensuring the successful implementation of current and long-range planning initiatives, historic preservation efforts, and development review processes. Your primary focus will be to support delivering timely and high-quality development review, as well as staff supervision, policy development, and supporting the Community Development Director. Additionally, you will assist in aligning the department\'s activities with the City Council\'s Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and other relevant plans. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, applied skills in development review, extensive knowledge of urban planning principles, and excellent communication abilities.

Duties

What You\'ll Do:

  • Provide staff assistance to the Community Development Director; research, plan, coordinate, and implement special projects; serve as acting director of the Community Development Department in the director\'s absence.
  • Confer with developers, other agencies, and the public in acquiring information and coordination of development projects; review and participate in discussions on major development issues; advise consultants, developers and others regarding City standards and regulations; meet with and advise community associations and others on community development policy and direction; negotiate on behalf of the City.
  • Respond to and resolve complex citizen inquiries and complaints; assist City staff and the general public in applying zoning and development code and other plans and policies to specific projects, issues, and concerns.
  • Provide staff assistance to the Community Development Director; research, plan, coordinate, and implement special projects; serve as acting director of the Community Development Department in the director\'s absence.
  • Manage and participate in the development and implementation of the community\'s planning efforts through the implementation of the goals and objectives of the City Council\'s Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Plan and other related plans and initiatives; recommend and administer policies and procedures.

Qualifications

What We\'re Looking For:
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible urban planning and development experience including two (3) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
  • Bachelor\'s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning or related field. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be submitted.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, AICP certification.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver\'s License.
