POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Day Camp Site Supervisor, the Day Camp Site Lead will be responsible for the supervision, implementation, and development of activity plans for a group of children, including assisting in the child\xe2\x80\x99s social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and cognitive development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: \xe2\x80\xa2 Assist in overall camp management. \xe2\x80\xa2 Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the day camp program by displaying exemplary behavior at all times. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assist in providing meaningful program for campers (not free play). \xe2\x80\xa2 Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; attending to the needs of campers at all times.

  • Welcome parents and campers at all times \xe2\x80\xa2 Assume equal responsibility of general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, campsite clean up, and bus clean up. \xe2\x80\xa2 Communicate with other staff on a regular basis regarding the care of the campers. \xe2\x80\xa2 Attend all pre-camp trainings for all counseling staff.
  • Assist in overall management of day camp group. \xe2\x80\xa2 Have an understanding and follow all emergency procedures on the campsite. \xe2\x80\xa2 React kindly and firmly in a positive manner when disciplining children. \xe2\x80\xa2 Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all coworkers, YMCA staff, YMCA members, program participants and the general public.
  • Consciously create a climate in camp to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. \xe2\x80\xa2 Adhere to all regulations in accordance to State laws and requirements. \xe2\x80\xa2 Follow all safety, blood borne, and child abuse prevention guidelines. \xe2\x80\xa2 Take proper precautions in keeping children safe at all times.
  • Document incidents and accidents by filling out an FYI for parents, and YMCA incident Report forms, submit them to the Camp Site Director. \xe2\x80\xa2 Display character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility at all times. \xe2\x80\xa2 Responsible for lesson plan development (weekly) and implementation of the weekly plans with a group of children. \xe2\x80\xa2 Directly supervise day camp counselors and Jr.
counselors, and lead program activities throughout the day. \xe2\x80\xa2 Assist in monitoring the quantity, quality, appearance, maintenance, and storage of all supplies and equipment needed for program delivery. \xe2\x80\xa2 Attend all staff meetings and other activities (i.e. family events) as required.

  • Take a leadership role in interacting with youth. EFFECT ON END RESULT: \xe2\x80\xa2 A safe environment for all individuals involved in the program. \xe2\x80\xa2 A quality experience for all individuals involved in the program. \xe2\x80\xa2 A positive image of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the community.
  • Sound management skills of the various components of the position, including all supervision. \xe2\x80\xa2 The degree to which the needs of the day camp participants, and their families are being met. QUALIFICATIONS: \xe2\x80\xa2 Experience working with youth preferred. \xe2\x80\xa2 High school diploma or equivalent required. \xe2\x80\xa2 Meets the requirements set forth by the state-licensing agency. Documentation of DHS clearance prior to starting work, TB skin test within 30 days, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days.

  • Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion trainings as required.
