Job Summary

Provides counsel and advice to top management on significant Database Administration & Management matters, often requiring coordination between organizations. Develops the most complex database systems for the organization. Coordinates with senior leaders to determine requirements. Analyzes, designs, creates and implements complex databases including access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security. Interprets internal or external issues and recommends solutions/best practices. Designs complex data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas. Liaisons with database software vendors and external technical support on issues such as software upgrades, problems and potential solutions. Reviews systems under development and related documentation. May participate in vendor selection and relationship management. Leads project teams, monitoring project schedules and costs. Focuses on providing thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines. Recognized internally as \xe2\x80\x9cthe go-to person\xe2\x80\x9d for the most complex Database Administration assignments.



This Database Administration Senior Advisor role within Business Insights & Analytics will own data enrichment and data curation activities across the department to streamline the production of actionable insights for Evernorth Service Operations. This role will bring best practices in database administration, data modeling, ETL design, and query efficiency to bear on our operational datasets. This role will work to put in place core data structures and complementary tools to create analytical repositories that are both easy to understand and highly performant. This role will partner with Technology Architecture and Execution teams to tap into new sources of operational data and iteratively work to improve existing ones. This role will be responsible for creating automated systems to assess overall database health and call out specific pain points where they exist. This role will mentor junior members of the Analytic Data Platforms team in technical problem solving, and will be called upon frequently to consult with leadership on the technical direction of the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with business and technology SME\'s to critically assess available data from technology production systems and model that data into structures that reflect and allow us to easily analyze the realities of our business.
  • Use multiple datasets in concert to improve data completeness, accuracy, and actionability.
  • Develop efficient ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) patterns for loading small-to-large amounts of operational data.
  • Ensure appropriate indexing is in place to optimize performance of web-based reporting applications fed from team data repositories.
  • Enhance/create automated systems to monitor database server health.
  • Identify and remediate performance pain points as needed.
  • Mentor junior developers/analysts in data modeling, ETL design, and query efficiency.
Qualifications:
  • Several years of experience in Database Administration, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and maintain relational databases.
  • Thorough knowledge of one or more query design tools (such as Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, Teradata SQL Assistant, Oracle SQL Developer, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of one or more ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) tools (such as Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, Informatica, Ab Initio, Talend, etc.).
  • Proven track record of adapting to new tools/technologies as needed.
  • Strong skillsets in query tuning and overall efficient use of database resources.
  • Experience with metadata catalog tools (such as Alation) a plus.
  • Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented in all work activities.
  • Able to work cross-functionally with Technology and other partners.
  • Able to handle and prioritize multiple projects or tasks at a time.
  • Able to quickly learn how to use new software applications.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 100,500 - 167,500 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
